  1. Well, I know that a degree with a considerable portion of theoretical study in the visual arts is going to hold up well here, especially considering the fact that I am not aware of anyone in the art community here who has an academic background in visual arts related fields, beyond MFAs. There are some who've done a Masters in Art History but they're non-resident, so I don't suppose that counts. So I practically have an empty stage to cover. I also wonder if it's possible to study art history/ visual culture and take education/ psychology as a minor, could that be a good mix for me? But yeah, all in all MA in Art Education seems the most straightforward route I ought to follow. I wonder if anyone else out there has any experience with this too.
  2. I'm looking for preferably a program focused on more than just specific needs of art teaching at institutions with a US curriculum (international student here, teaching license for US schools is not what I'm aiming for). As in, it would be good it the program had a broader range than that. Things I plan to do with my education: --Building sustainable program models for art activities in rural/ unprivileged areas --greater integration of art teaching in the school curricula/ art as meta-subject for other subjects to bolster student interest --artwork creation and art appreciation as tools for personal development and critical thinking --influencing/ reformulating art education policy here --reinvigorating traditional and indigenous crafts through contemporary art practices and ideas The list I've come up with so far: University of Minnesota, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, M.Ed, Art Education Harvard GSE, Ed M, Arts in Education California State University, MA Art Education Teachers College, Columbia University, Program in Art and Art Education The University of the Arts,Department of Art Education,Philadelphia, MA Art Education The Ohio State University, MA Art Education Virginia Commonwealth University, Masters in Art Education [MAE] Georgia State University, Master of Arts in Education [MA Ed] The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Master of Arts in Education [MA Ed] The University of Arizona, MA Art Education Rhode Island School of Design, MA Art Education New York University, MA, Art Education and Community Practice, MA Art Education Memphis College of Art, MA Art Education Tyler School of Art, Memphis University, M Ed Art Education MassArt, MAT/ MS Art Education University of Utah, Department of Art and Art History, MFA Community Art University of Texas at Austin, Department of Art and Art History, MA in Art Education I've listed the departments as well, does that also give an idea about the general inclinations of the program? (Say, an MA Art Ed. in the dept. of curriculum vs in the dept. of art history). Also, from what I understand so far, an MA / M Ed is preferably better for what I want to do, rather than MS or MAT. Is that so? I'll have to cut back on this list and maybe choose 8 to 10 to apply to. Do advise.
  3. Found something useful here: http://teach.com/masters-of-arts-in-teaching-vs-masters-of-education
  4. Master of Arts in Education Master of Science in Education Master of Arts in Teaching What is the difference between these? As in, in terms of their general academic inclinations. I'm trying to look up art education programs, and I'm wondering how these degrees are generally structured.
  5. I'm guessing this is the most appropriate place to post this. I'm trying to study art education, and I need advice on what kinds of programs/ majors are out there. I already have 2 years of teacing experience at the high school level (international student here btw), and I've also been involved with artivist activity. I want to equip myself to be able to teach a wide demographic, and in different settings, as in, I don't wish to limit myself to teaching at an art college when I return to my home country. My goal is to someday be able to design education program modules for schools and colleges here (not just art schools, any) which use visual arts and art appreciation as tools for developing critical thinking. Perhaps I'll be reaching out to schools in villages and helping them develop sustainable art practices in their institutions, or perhaps I'll be holding art workshops for garment factory workers. Basically I want my education to allow for a wide range of teaching possibilities. I'm pretty scatterbrained about my grad school search. Also, my other concern is, do most art education programs only entail a certification here, as opposed to Masters proper? And do the courses only cater to Amerian art college curriculum formats (as in preparing you to teach at an American university)? Also, Masters in Art Education vs. Masters in Education with focus on art? Anyone else seeking to study Art Education/ studying? Do advise. Quick Edit: I have a BFA [Painting]
