I would say that it depends on your goals for learning the language--whether for reading/research where a strong foundation in mechanics would enable you to parse through a text, or for actual speaking/communication in which mechanics is actually a bit less vital than communicative skills.

Just a shout out to Ablukhov--are you coming to Berkeley?

I wrote her (I assume the same woman) two days ago and again got a vague "we're still waiting" response. She didn't even both to make promises of "next week" so it sounds like she's given up, too I also heard (unofficially) that the funding would be the same as last year, but no one would actually commit to notification of awards, since I guess it could all somehow still change? It sounds like other universities have made their awards for the next academic year, wonder why Berkeley has been so hesitant to do so? This is way too stressful. I hate not knowing what I'm doing next year.

I'm at Berkeley too and also waiting on FLAS. Have you heard anything? (It is somewhat of a consolation that I am not the ONLY one in this situation...)
