  1. I have a question regarding the wording in HKS' Public Service Fellowship. It says:

''As a demonstration of their commitment, successful applicants must be professionally employed in the public sector, broadly defined, for three years upon graduation.''

We all know what public sector is. My question is what do they really mean when they say ''broadly defined''? What does it include? For example, do they count the NGO sector as public too, or what?

    Any ideas?

We have to hand in the applications tonight, so any info until then is extremely useful.

    Thank you all!

  2. Hi,

SIPA has it application due date on 6 jan and SAIS has its on 7 Jan.  One of my recommenders may not be able to send the LOR by these dates. Does it affect the application in any regard.

    Please advise.

Some schools are strict with their deadlines, while others are more lenient if you ask them beforehand. Therefore, I would suggest that you send an email asap explaining your situation. However, keep in mind that if you haven't already done so, it might take them a couple of days to reply. Also, while it might take some courage to 'pressure' recommenders, this is about your future and won't hurt to try to get them to submit the LoRs by the deadline. Good luck!

OMG, SIPA is 6th? I thought it was in february? Explain!

SIPA has two deadlines. January 6th is if you want to be considered for fellowships, February is if you don't want to be considered for fellowships.

  3. It looks like another resurrection is needed here. I would really appreciate if someone who actually finished this program can provide additional info. My majors were Chinese and IR in undergrad, so the MAIS and 5-semester-option both seem like a nice fit. However, I want to learn a bit more about the pros and cons compared with the regular DC/Bologna. Anyone?

  4. Hello all,

I am an international student getting ready to apply to several MIA MPP schools in USA. As you know most of these schools require you to have a quant background, which I lack. To make my application more competitive I decided to take macro and micro online courses before applying.

Now I have been googling and I came up with UCB and Oxford online courses. UCB is USD 900 for one class and Oxford is 300 Pounds. I want to take Oxford courses but I wanted to ask people here first. Has anyone taken courses at these universities? Will getting them from Oxford which uses a different accreditation system differ from getting them from UCB?

    Thank you!
