Hi, I am a Brit who is looking at studying public policy in the States. I am looking for advice on the amount of work experience it is advisable to have. I am drawing to the end of a history degree at Oxford University and expect to graduate with good (but not stellar) grades and references. I also have a little experience of working in politics. By the time I graduate I will have been a district councillor for two years. This is an elected position in local government representing about four thousand people and is part-time and unpaid. I have also completed internships in an member of parliaments office and a think tank, as well as having organised a number of election campaigns. Is this a sufficient background from which to apply? If so, is that only for certain types of programs and colleges? This is a question that could have a big impact on my decision about applications, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
