Hello all,
am stressing out badly and i need everyone to just advice, am super confused if am gonna loose grad school this year again due to funding. I applied to only 3 schools for sculpture, Yale- waitlisted, columbia- accepted, hunter- accepted. now, columbia is offering 25,000 financial aid withTA inclusive while the total I need for a session is about 81,000. Hunter is not offering anything. so, am an international student and there are no local bursaries or loans i can leverage on. I have to accept to columbia by the 15th and pay $800, am not sure where to get money to go and WHAT CAN I DO? Any Ideas for an African student on where i can get resources?

When do you have to inform Columbia of your decision to enroll?
on the 15th April, any ideas?

Thank you! Yes, I just decided that I would probably always regret not going there if I didn't. It is a "dream school" and I'm grateful for the opportunity. Plus, the funding package is also quite nice! I'm very excited about what this next phase in my life and work will bring.
Also, I'll definitely keep checking in for awhile to see what people decide.
It doesn't hurt to ask for more, I guess- and I don't have any ideas for how to go about getting outside scholarships for international students, but Columbia seems to: http://arts.columbia.edu/admissions/financing-your-degree
Thank you!

I got 25k from CU for sculpture, which is not enough, is there a change that they can review?any ideas about how to get outside scholarships for international students

I got 25,000 scholarship from CU, its tricky, this is still far from the reality, any advice on how to get outside funding for international students?
-
I don't think hunter has a lot of funding as it is part of the cuny system and therefore has less money to spend on scholarships. plus it is already pretty inexpensive... I could be wrong though.
Thank you, I have to choose between CU and hunter and really my choice id dependent on funding am afraid

Accepted at hunter for sculpture without any information about funding, anyone aware if hunter has good funding for international student?
-
today?
yeah! yesterday

Congrats!!!
Thank you, am wondering what they offer because funding is very crucial for me being an international student. do you have any idea?

Congrats! I was accepted for painting. I talked with Gregory Amenoff, he said we'll be contacted by the financial aid peeps soon.
Talked with a first year grad in the program about funding, said that most get some type of scholarships/fellowship/work study, cutting the tuition in half... But who knows if any of this is accurate.
cutting the tuition to half? I need a full ride else…..
-
I think I heard they give exactly 1 full ride per year.
like, just 1 person? is this what you mean?
-
Just got accepted at columbia for sculpture via phone call, still waiting for funding details. anyone know if columbia would offer a full ride?

When they ask if you have any questions, say "What do you think it takes to do well here? How does someone make the best of this program?"
Thank you.

i know someone who went from wait list to accepted. you may wait a long time but if you want to go there it is worth a shot.
Thank you. I will accept the wait-list offer in that case. they said they will be sure by 1st of may, thats quite a long time!

No news yet :/
Yes! wait list
-
I got a wait listing from yale, can one really hope on this wait listing?

I meant that sculpture can encompass a lot of different things and that your work doesn't require a foundry or some other high tech capabilities. I'm not entirely sure what is going on with Yale's sculpture program, but I wouldn't concern yourself. Yale can still open a lot of doors in the art world and if you can get funding then you should probably consider going. Many people on this board would probably try to go there if they could so I wouldn't read a lot into it. I would certainly try to find out about international funding possibilities, but I wouldn't bring that up during the interview. Just talk about your work, the artists you admire, your process, and ask them questions about their program. Look at past year forums and see if you can find the answers to your questions there concerning Yale. There is a search function at the top right where you can put in Yale for all of Visual Art.
Thank you. insightful.

Thank you for all you suggestions, Its just very much crazy, Full bright in My country supports only university faculty not graduate students. I have been in touch with Cu, but they got back to me that they don't have more until people accept in other Genre, they might be able to decide….
