  1. I am a new MS student at a school in Texas. I am at a crossroad on choosing a research topic, First, I need to show my interest in the thesis option before Spring 2017. To be more specific its an MS MECH Engineering program. I have deep passion for thermo-fluids research, but since coming to the US I want to do something like Design, Manufacturing or Control.

I am not bent on getting a Phd after my MS but I want to do research work; at least to for accomplishment and  yeah a lower tuition.

    My questions

1)Get into an area I am familiar with or just get into something not theorectical like thermofluids.

    I am very confused.

It really depends on your professional goals. If you intend to further apply for a PhD program, I believe your M.Eng degree won't make much of a difference. If you plan to work in a company after getting your M.Eng degree, I would say that it's possible that an M.S. degree would be more valued by companies, since during a M.Eng degree you're basically doing the same you did as an undergrad. I suggest you research about the different outcomes you'd have with the different degree options. I would also ask more people about it, since opinions may vary.

Thanks. I would be taking my MS offer from some other school.

  3. Hello guys.

I am international  student with no prior academic or practical experience  with UAVs.

I want looking for a potential research  topic  to discuss  with a certain  professor  but it's difficult thinking.

I have a BS IN mechanical  Engr.

I any  ideas, any individual in this field.

  4. Hi guys, I am an International student. I just got an admission decision  for a MS Mechanical Engineering program. The offer comes with  an instate tuition waiver.

Well I am seeking  an assistantship position in the department and it seems most of the Professors in preferred area are not accepting new students.

I am left with one who is into Nuclear research and he may accept me if I  show interest. But the issue is that I don't have an idea of this research area. Tried reading his journals I just get headaches.

What do I do is possible  to make this kind of shift?

And what are the prospects of Nuclear research in the US?

  5. I'm not sure any UL stats but a friend of mine (I met in the industry) seemed to hold his education in high regard. He said recruitment attracts a lot of big employers... Unfortunately because of the current market, it's a bit too hard to anticipate future hiring for when you complete your degree :/

YEAH I think so with fall in oil prices jobs may become harder to get.

  6. Hello to guys that posted on this thread. I am presently accepted at the University of Louisiana lafayette Pet Eng Ms program. I want to know how good this program really. I am weary at pursuing a program that may not lead to job prospects. Thanks

  7. I actually think this is not necessarily true. Sometimes you might get lucky and get less complex words but I I actually felt I got stuck with a pretty wide variety of complex words. I think it's a toss-up.

Also, another tip: do the practice GRE exams provided by ETS! They're free and exactly like the real test. I treated it as if I was taking the real exam: no breaks, no distractions, essays, the works. It helps a ton to get the hang of timing.

Yeah may have been luck. The coin could have tossed anyway. But I really dont buy the idea of memorizing a 5000 wordlist from Baron or any test prep. It is very taxing and I fret at such measures.

But I agree with original post practice with Ets questions- very important.

  8. My opinion. Got 159 on the verbal.

    1) Magoosh vocab app.

    2) Read copies of the economist and the newyorker.(new words and sentence variety)

    3) Manhattan reading comprehension guide (pls ignore the Tc and Se in thatbook)

    4) Magoosh videos for TC and SE.

    5) Practice verbal questions from the Ets official guide and verbal practice question.

I did this dilligently and I got a good score. International student from Nigeria.

    My 5cents

NB- on test day I found out that the ETS does not use complex vocab. But they tinker with the sentence structure. So dont inundate yourself with excess vocab.

  9. To me you are right at the average acceptance score which is great. For my program at A&M they list the average combined GRE (Quant+Verabal) as 320 and the mininum combined score at 310. Make sure to get good recommendations and to write a good SOP.

    Thanks for the feedback.
