  1. Well, people are hearing back from temple. Anyone applying to the photography department hear anything yet? I'm finally at 'complete and ready for review' as the last recommender finally turned in his recommendation.

Urgh, I'm going into that deathspiral where everything is riding on me getting into grad school. Not to sound dramatic *snerk* but I either need to get into a MFA program or have some form of magic happen and get me into a job that I don't despise will all my heart and soul. Corporate Retail is a rank bitch.

  2. Well, MICA is reviewing my portfolio now. So I should hear back soonish.

I've entered the valley of 'despair' and 'desperation' on that coaster all in one go.

I really need to start a new photography series, but I just have no time. That and winter doesn't agree with me. The outdoors is something I particularly rely on, but the places I go are becoming either dangerous to traverse or too popular. That and the cedar waxwings. Poop everywhere man.

Urgh, February is gonna be fun. Not to mention that the regional manager came in today and she doesn't like me at all. We will see if I still have my job at the end of the week

  3. Ya, all mine says is "Incomplete Items Outstanding" (which I called them about, my transcript got lost in the mail so I emailed one and then had to mail a new one). So unless it saying "This is a summary of the processed application that was selected." at the top of the form means anything, I'll have to wait until Monday to call or for the snail mail.

That's what mine says too. It's because one professor hasn't sent in the recommendation either because of slideroom problems or being busy I have no idea.

Just sent him another email. I'm about getting to the level of bribing him, or begging. I can't tell

  4. My particular favorite comes from my mother's boss's wife:

"Photography, said derisively, what use is that?"

Most range from the "well that's useless" to the "you want to live off your family forever?" and the "your cousin who is your age is an actuary, why couldn't you do that?"

My father is a staunch believer in all college being useless. And my inability to find work in my field as me not trying hard enough. If I try any harder, I'd be flinging body parts at people for them to notice me.

  5. My experience has been that things dont always update right away. Contact your admissions rep and see if they can see it.

I had to resend requests a number of times, because recommenders either didn't get them or couldn't find them. I just assumed it had something to do with SPAM filters. It happened with systems other than slideroom as well. No problem with actual recommendation submissions though.

The Temple lady seems cool with my professor sending it to her. Which is great, because the due date has since passed.

I don't think it went to his spam filter, because he filled out the other three slideroom things.

I need to contact the MICA rep though. Just to see what I can do with the adhd professor. I swear, he's like a living distraction, but great in his field.

  6. Is anyone having slideroom problems? For some reason, one recommender hasn't gotten one email from them (the temple one), and another swears he's submitted one for MICA, but it hasn't gone through. Now the second one is kinda adhd, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. But the first recommender is pretty trustworthy

  7. I'm also applying this year for MFA photography.  Am currently enrolled at MICA's low-res. program, but looking at full-time programs this time.

In terms of funding; I've got UC Irvine and UCSD on my list for that.

Heard that U of Arizona, and U of New Mex. have good programs and funding.

    Also, U of Illinois.

    Want to do websites?

    Who's your dream faculty?

I've just started the process and I'm looking at least at SAIC, my list is somewhere [just can't find it], but I just got advised by my old professor about some other places, such as temple? I've also heard some things of U of I urbana-champaign, but I have to factor in the spaces around the university too, I'm hoping to either go to programs more north in the country or out of country.

I don't have a website setup per se, and I'm also highly self-depreciative on my art so I can message you a link to a website that has some of my photos up. It's just that I really need to get off the site I'm on [shamefully, deviantart :/ ]

I don't much have a dream faculty as a dream facility. Coming from a university whose arts department consists of 1 epson r3000, a darkroom the size of a walk-in closet, one studio that gets highly competitive during still-life times, and a print lab that's even smaller than the darkroom makes me dream of space.

  8. So I've come to the start of the 2014 season of applications. This will be my first round and I would like some input from people who've gone through the process.

I was also wondering if you guys know the good photography programs with good funding. The more funding the better of course.

I'm sure I will have more questions sooner or later.
