  1. After reviewing a few older posts, it appears that most undergraduates live south of campus and that most of frats and partying happens near S. University Ave. Would this be a correct assessment?

I am an incoming grad student and I am looking for a relatively quiet neighborhood. A few listings caught my eye, one near Hoover and Division and the other is near Granger and Golden Avenues. Does anyone have any insight on these neighborhoods?

Hey, did you attend? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on how it was (I'm an international student so I was unable to attend any of the Open Houses).

Also, folks still deciding on Ford, what other schools are you considering?

I was able to attend Spring Preview and I was thoroughly impressed with how well organized and informative it all was. I thought Ford did a great job highlighting their curriculum, career services office and other factors that differentiate Ford from peer policy schools. I found their staff, professors, current students and alumni all very accessible and eager to share their experiences. The Ford building and the surrounding campus is beautiful and I found downtown Ann Arbor to be quaint. It did snow while we were there, but that didn't bother me as much. I left Spring Preview feeling that Ford really does care about the success of its students and that school invests accordingly.

I am also considering Luskin, SIPA and Harris, but I think Spring Preview sealed the deal for me. Does anybody else have any thoughts?

Show of hands for who is going to Spring Preview! I'll be there, so if anyone from the board wants to at least have someone to awkwardly make small chat with, then send me a message. I'm also trying to figure out the living situation - does anyone know if any grad students every just up and live in Detroit? A2 looks AWESOME, but that's some fierce rent, whereas there are obviously some bargains in the city. Thoughts? ETA: Anyone who is doing an apartment search and has good sources, share!

I'll be there too @obrien_blue! I'll message you separately. Anyone else attending?

I'd also be interested in a housing discussion (when to start looking, neighborhoods, groceries and etc.).

  4. Has anyone officially or unofficially decided on Michigan? I was admitted into the MPP program at the Ford School and I am strongly leaning towards accepting. It would be nice to connect with other incoming Wolverines and chat about Ann Arbor, roommates and housing, grocery stores, cafes and the like. I will be coming from California where anything below 60 F is cold, so I am both curious and intimidated about Michigan winters.

  5. For those who have committed (or are likely to commit) to attending Ford, when would it be a good time to find housing? Other forum threads suggest scouting a place as soon as you submit your intent to register, but wouldn't that be too early? Or do some landlords allow you to sign a lease now to secure a place but have the move in and lease start around September? I am located in California and I am not sure how many opportunities I will have to visit Ann Arbor before the fall.
