6:00 pm EDT. Another day, another week has come and gone.
Happy hour, here I come. Isn't Russia hearing back, slowly? I almost lost it and e-mailed Alyssa today but I calmed down. Not really.

Kristen Wiig (sp?) is awesome! I love how many times she's been referenced in this forum!
-
Ackkk Google Alerts for Fulbright are a bad idea!

Oh that is so AWESOME, focusing on women's empowerment! I applied for a research grant to Armenia, and I'm also working with women or would really like to. I was also in Armenia twice before (I am Armenian-American) and noticed huge problems with women's rights, although slowly there is some movement to address this. Specifically, my research would focus on ethnic Armenian refugee women from Syria, Iraq, and Azerbaijan (Iraq and Azerbaijan are the older refugee populations; Syria is of course way more recent) and do a multi-sited ethnographic study of their long-term integration into the host society via participation in NGOs and CSOs. This would for sure be an anthropological focus, but I'm hoping it can help influence policymaking and ease the stress of out-migration and UNHCR agreed to sponsor me.
Fingers crossed for us both and whatever happens, we need to realize women's rights and empowerment is a huge deal, within our own cultures and abroad, so we should keep fighting for it

haha Hina where did you apply and for what? I'm not sure I remember, sorry!
-
My mother's response to another "No, I didn't hear back from Fulbright yet" : "Honey, did they lose your application?" Good question.

Congratulations, Mozartgirl53! I agree with everyone on the forum that your warm and encouraging words keep us all positive and motivated! Specifically, you make sure you comment on everyone's posts individually, which is not only remarkable in itself but extremely genuine. You absolutely deserve this opportunity and please keep us posted!

Very sorry to hear that, I was rooting for you as well! Best of luck to you in your future endeavours
I'm very sorry to hear that as well, skosz. Have you tried looking into alternative grants for Azerbaijan?
That's one Caucasian country down. Come on, motherland!

Really? No notifications? anyone else live in DC? I went on a date with a state department guy. Couldn't get anything out of him and the date was less than ideal. I tried, GradCafe!

Maginz you applied for Armenia too? Research or ETA?
-
No problem! But seems that we still have to wait as Alyssa said that:
"We are hopeful to be able to send notifications for Azerbaijan by the end of this week."
I have to make some decision soon too but I know that we are quite privileged to have the sort of problems we are dealing with here. Good luck to you!
Thank you very much! I applied for Armenia, not Azerbaijan, fyi, but I would assume both countries would somewhat be on the same schedule
-
Since I'm so sick of waiting I just emailed Alyssa Yeng and asked about Azerbaijan. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from her. I want to be notified!
Thanks for asking, skosz! Hopefully we'll get good news soon. Or any news. I'm currently in limbo between interviewing for a new job/finding a long-term apartment, or getting a temporary job and apartment to stay in DC. It's fun, but I have to keep reminding myself there are so many others in this world who go through so much worse than we do

Literally at the edge of my seat. Which is hard to say given the length of my day. Come on Eurasia!
-
Sooo.. I had this same thing happen to me and I just found out that I got into Moldova... so you really have no reason to worry! I just ordered another transcript immediately
Congrats!!! How exciting!! I immediately dropped everything I was doing and frantically checked my inbox (I'm also a Eurasia applicant, for Armenia)
-
Come on, Eurasia! I keep getting awesome networking/partnership opportunities for Armenia! One distant cousin of mine started his own NGO there and suggested I help develop a program on refugee women within his NGO. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! It doesn't help that I keep making friends with people in the State Department, but nobody knows anything about the Fulbright.

When I called Alyssa Yeng on Thursday, she did mention that they are hoping to have notifications out this week, since the person who can move the process forward is back in the office this morning. However, she didn't sound terribly confident that they would get it done within that timeframe, and added that next week could be a possibility as well. Not sure how much point there is in speculating, but my money would be on Thursday or Friday of this week, if at all.
OK thank you so much! It's getting to be past the point where I actually am forgetting I did submit a Fulbright application! Keeping busy and I hope you are all keeping busy, as well!
-
Eurasian applicants, is this week the week? I believe it was Thursday that someone called Alyssa Yeng (thank you!!) and asked about notification dates. I seem to remember the woman sending out notifications was coming back to her office on Monday (today)

This is pretty annoying. Family and friends keep asking me about Fulbright on a daily basis and I never have anything to say. I guess the "Still?!?!" responses at least validate my impatience. I did, however, find out today that my school will have the the Fulbright director for Poland host a lunch with students a few weeks from now. While I may not be interested in Poland, if I get rejected by then, she might have some advise on reapplying.
Trying oh-so-desperately to stay positive.
Exact same situation. My parents are visiting DC and are having an "intervention" with me because they don't understand how the job market works in DC and how slow the Fulbright process is.
-
No news from the Caucasus yet My mom said "no news is good news." Hang in there! Reading GradCafe reallly helps me get through the day!
-
UGH! No news today. Soooooo frustrated, especially when 5pm rolls around. It's hard just figuring out what to do next, planwise. Hang in there, friends!

Thank you for the reminder, Secret_Ninja

Ugh, I'm dying here! And I'm supposed to have a thirty-page script finished by Thursday morning. Ha. Fulbright is all I can think about. Then again, I'm worried that once I find out, I'll be forced to go back to dealing with the misery of my recent breakup. Man, I'm such a downer.
The moral of the story is that I AM LOSING IT IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY.
I'm sorry about the break-up Had a few miserable ones in my life, too. Have you tried stress running or combining stress exercise and stress eating? My logic is it balances each other out.

I know that I received my January recommendation on a Tuesday at like 5:55 or 5:58pm. So, every day when I walk home from the office or wherever in DC, I anxiously refresh my phone at that time. Same thing, stupid Netflix or Grubhub
