  1. Congrats Philmajor! It looks like we'll be colleagues!
  2. I'm going to the University of Chicago for PhD work in theology. I was admitted in off of the waitlist. They cover tuition, health insurance, and give a $20K/year for four years stipend. My stats: UGPA: 4.0 GGPA (from YDS): 3.97 (though Yale does not assign actual GPAs) GRE: V:800 Q: 800 A: 5.5
  3. I got into Chicago today for the PhD in theology!!!!!!
  4. I'm not really sure Stud. Theo. With job interviews, I've heard that you are not supposed to discuss money during the interview. If this is the first time you're talking to your advisor, you may just want to discuss his or your interests. On the other hand, if the conversation is about money, I may ask about the prospects of getting more money for excellent work.
  5. Thanks Philmajor. I called Chicago based on your advice. The secretary said that I am #1 on the wait list!!! I have to believe that one of these three spots will open up. But, for now, I'll just wait and watch the NCAAs.
  6. MAR in Systematic Theology; Full tuition. YDS is trying to begin paying full tuition for all Masters students, from what I understand.
  7. I'm a Yale Div. grad. As a YDS student, you are able to take classes any where in the University. Philosophy of Religion folk have had great success in getting into PhD programs in philosophy.
  8. Congrats tired and Stud.
  9. No word from chicago today
  10. Does anyone have thoughts on Vanderbilt's Theology program? It seems quite a bit weaker now than when McFague was there. Is it still a "top tier" school?
  11. From Teresa Hord Owens, the Dean of Students at University of Chicago Divinity School: "The bulk of decision letters were mailed yesterday, and the remainder sent out today."
  12. If you are anxious, it might be worth asking. I live in the Quad-Cities (2-3 hours from Chicago). I will let you know if I hear anything when I check the mail later today.
  13. I can't think of a better guy to do a dissertation with than Omid Safi. I say UNC.
  14. I recommend going to the school where there are faculty working in your area. (1) You will be able to dig deeper into the topic you wish to pursue. (2) Rankings do not matter as much as advisors. If you want to do good work in a speciality, go where someone knows the topic well. (3) You will get jobs based on your publications, not on your school. You will publish more if you work with people who know your area. (4) It is easier on your family, which I am finding out, is a major consideration. Those are my thoughts at least. Good luck!
  15. I posted the scores and it is no joke. I think I got a bad recommendation and/or my personal statement was bad. I'm shocked and depressed. I have not heard from two schools, but right now I am 0 for 5. I haven't even been wait-listed.
