Not at all. The DGA was the one who encouraged me to reach out to my other schools to see what my status was. They're reasonable people and will understand that you gotta make some choices.
Waitlisted candidates are totally invited! It's on March 17-18. And It's definitely worth going to-- Charlottesville is magical and wonderful, as is the department.
Definitely don't give up! I spoke with the DGA this morning and he was explaining to me all kinds of communicated/non-communicated waitlists. Basically, unless you receive a rejection before April 15, chin up! Though it's exasperating, for sure.
E-mailed Columbia-- "Our admissions committee has made its decisions, and GSAS will be sending out an informal email and official letters early next week."
