I have a friend who is a Social Work T.A at Columbia University and she's always telling me that I should not worry about the GPA.
if you really want to get into a school you can always convince the admission commission that you are a great fit! Show them that you really want this school and that you are a devoted student. Academic people are always trying to promote the profession and they are trying to get more and more people into the profession.
So my point is that don't be afraid of your GPA and submit an application to all the upscale schools. Don't forget you can always find a way to finance your Master! (loan, scholarship, in campus work etc)
