  1. Kenzie123 have you considered University of Manitoba online BSW? I am completing it right now and highly recommend it! They have been great for online delivery and are very flexible :) I think Dalhousie has a pretty good reputation as well but I don't know from first-hand experience. Good luck!

    Hi Jennbe,

I was just wondering if you could give me any more information about the program and what you applied with when you were accepted :)?

  2. hi everyone,

I hope you all had a good summer! Last year I applied for the 2 year MSW program at Laurier and U of T and the one year bsw at lakehead. I was wait listed at lakehead but wasn't successful. I feel like my downfall was my grades but I have graduated in april in criminal justice and public policy and minoring in child and family studies with an 81% average so even though it isn't as high as I would like it to be i feel more comfortable with it.

I was planning on reapplying to my msw again this year but I have received a contract position with the ministry of education as a program advisor and will be working fulltime and therefore unable to be in school full time. I still really want to have an education in the social work field so I am looking at applying to u of vic bsw online program and dalhousies online bsw program

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to these/have completed them? and how competitive they are?

As I said I have an A- average, i am working full time as a program advisor, i volunteered at cas for the past 3 years in a variety of different programs, i volunteered this past summer at a youth shelter and i was on the board for MADD for a year

  3. Congratulations to all who have heard back regarding acceptances! And best wishes to those who have yet to hear back from certain schools or are hoping for movement on the waiting list.

I received my rejection letter from Laurier today, and am guessing that I'll be getting one from Windsor soon considering I didn't receive an email. I have been accepted to the HBSW at Lakehead (Orillia), OISE's M.Ed program, and Brock's M.ADS program. As I mentioned in an earlier post I'm really torn between the OISE's offer and pursuing a social work degree like I originally planned - the OISE courses just look so fantastic!

I will try to decide ASAP so that those on the waiting list will hopefully get some good news :)

Congrats on your acceptances ! I was just wondering what your volunteer/work experience is and your school background ?

To everyone who applied for the post degree BSW at Lakehead, here's an email update from Sonya. I thought I'd post it here, in case you can't access your Lakehead mail:

Hi All 1 Year HBSW Applicants,

I know that you are anxious to hear the admission decisions for the program. Please know that we are working on them. Here is some background information I think you should know:

There are approximately 500 applications - each application had to be read by 2 separate readers - which is time consuming.

Last year we had about the same amount of applications and our decisions were sent to the Admissions Office on April 17th.

We are hoping to get them in earlier this year so I ask for your patience as I am receiving so many emails asking the same question.

I will be sending out an email in the very near future letting you know that I have sent the decisions to the Admissions Office (hopefully by the end of the week, if I can get away from emails and phone calls). This email will be a generic email to ALL applicants explaining what to do and what to expect - I will not be sending out specific admission decisions to each of you at this time.

I hope this kind of helps ease your stress somewhat and know that we are doing whatever we can to get the offers out a few weeks earlier than last year.

Have a great evening all and keep an eye on this email account.

just so you know Sonya emailed again and decisions have been made and they are being posted now but they could take a day or two to show up on your account good luck :)

  5. I haven't got an email from the MSW Laurier 2 year program, I assume that means I have been rejected? Has anyone heard from Lakehead HBSW?

I also have not received an email from Laurier regarding the 2 year MSW. They might be being sent out in waves, or we may have not been accepted. As for Lakehead, about two weeks ago Sonya sent an email saying that decisions will be made in approximately three weeks.. so we should be hearing back in the near (ish) future.

    Best of luck!

I to have not heard back from Laurier yet either lets hope for the best :)

  6. Hey,

When I went to UofT's MSW info session they said that they will only look at the most recent 5 credit 300/400 level courses. Even if you took a 300/400 level course in second year with an A grade they will only look at the most recent 5.0 credit 300/400 level. I believe their cut off is a mid to high B. I remember Angela Umbrello the admissions coordinator saying that the first screening are marks. Since UofT gets a lot of applicants - without the cutoff marks they won't look at the rest of your application. I may be wrong tho - but this is what i remember.

     Hi,

Just wondering if the 5 credits is full or half credits that they look at :)

    thanks !

  7. Hi everyone,

Hope applications went well for everyone :) I have been following the thread for a bit and have decided to make my own post. I am applying to U of T and Laurier's MSW 2 year program and Orillia's HBSW 1 year program, all of which I am very nervous about. I am in my last year majoring in Criminal Justice and Public Policy and minoring in Child and Family Studies. I have a 78% average, which makes me nervous it will not be high enough but have done extremely well this last semester. I have been volunteering with Children's Aid for the past two year in a variety of roles and have also volunteered with MADD as a board member. This past summer I worked at the Ministry of Education under the Quality and Assurance Licensing Branch and am now working part-time during my school year as a teaching assistant in a daycare. I am hoping this will be enough to get me into one of my choices but understand how competitive this program is.

    Good luck to everyone :)!
