Hi all,
I know most of you cant stand this kind of question but I really need an advice.
I took my gre and I got a score of 284 (145V and 139Q) I know its very low.
My gpa is 3.32 (my parents divorced a few weeks before finals, so I had a very bad time), my professors also told me that I have a very good personal statement, I have very good LoR and a lot of experience. I am applying to the college where I am studying right now. Most of the professors know me.
I am really worried not to get accepted.
Is it still possible?
Have you heard any stories that students were accepted with a low gre score??
Any advice will be appreciated. I really need an advice.
Thanks.

Hello Everyone.
I am applying for master programs in Biology and last semester (spring of 2014) my GPA went down from 3.42 to 3.32. I got a C in Biostat, B- in Metaphysics and B- in Neurobiology. This happened because i had serious family related problems (my parents divorced a few weeks before my finals, so I almost failed my classes, but I was able to get an A- in Immuno and B in Physics). My question is do I need to explain that I got those grades because of the divorce of my parents?
also, should I include in my statement of purpose that I was discriminated by some of my professors (because I am not of Russian ethnicity) at my previous university in Russia before transferring to a US college (like asking for a bribe and lowering my grade up to one point)?
thanks in Advance

@MackF
You know right now I just want a Masters in Biotechnology, I need to get some research experience (i.e. no research experience at this time), and at the university where I am studying at there is not so much places available.
of course after my masters I will consider to apply for a PhD or MD/PhD program, but again I need to have a solid back ground.
the reason why I am so confused is that this is my 2nd year of studies in the US, before that I studied in a Russian Medical School (won the green card lottery and transferred to a biology major program in 2012)
so a masters and/or a job is the best way to get both work experience and lab/research experience.
concerning the GRE - I will probably take it somewhere in august - september, I should start to study now ^_^'
references are not a problem =)

Hello everyone,
I will be graduating in december 2014. Right now I want to apply for a masters program in Biotechnology (GPA: 3.42, may be around 3.5 at time of graduation), IF I will not be able to get into a program my plan B is to find a job, what kind of job I can get with my major?
I was thinking to work as a lab assistant/technologist to get some experience but I checked that almost everyone recommends a license/certification. Are there any jobs where I can get experience in a lab and do not require certification?
I know my question may sound ridiculous, I just want to know all kinds of possibilities...
thanks in advance

what are the best books/materials to study for the GRE?
I recently bought Kaplan GRE 2014 strategies....
maybe you could recommend me some other books which might be helpful?
English is not my first language, so I am a little worried that I can have some problems with the vocab - what could you recommend?
and what about the writing section?
thanks in advance =)

Hi guys,
sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.
I have an overall GPA of 3.42 and a major GPA of 3.02 ( I am a Biology Major) I will graduate this december, so my cumulative gpa may be 3.5 or a little higher,
My only lowest grade is a B- (only 1).
I want to apply to a biotechnology or physiology masters program , do I have some chances with this gpa???
I do not have any research experience.
What a Bio major can do?

Hi guys,
I am in the middle of an application period (waiting for Grad school decisions).
I want to know if a Biology graduate can work in the public health field? If you know any suggestions please let me know.
thank you.
