When did you recieve the email to choose a school? Ive been accepted to several schools for a while now but wasnt instructed to "indicate which school i plan on attending"
-
To those of you who were admitted to Berkeley, did they say anything that would indicate all of their offers have been sent out?
-
I haven't heard anything. They said to contact them before accepting an internship elsewhere in case it's likely you'll get the felowship. I sent them an email about this very matter since i need to get back to another offer and I haven't heard anything

I get the imptession that "matched" is really the only good status.
-
My status went back to held today. I was held from dec 10 - mar 12, and then matched for about the last week.

I think the Sandia email may have only gone out to US Citizens (let us know if you are one as this will disprove the that theory). Also if you go to the list of GEM Employers on the GEM website I think clicking the companies name takes you to a form where you can send an email. I've sent several emails this way though and never received a reply.

I kind of suspect that the 7 available spots are for posititons with Sandia National Labs in light of the email they sent out last week. They have a 2 year work requirement for each year they fund your masters (so 2-4 years total). That would probably be a deal breaker for me,especially since I may want to pursue a PhD after the masters.

Just got this email... "Dear 2014 GEM Applicant: The National GEM Consortium has completed the first three rounds of our Employer selection process to determine who has been selected for confirmation to become a 2014 GEM Fellow. We are adding one more round to this year's process and your application is under review in this final round. We expect to make final decisions on your application by March 28, 2014."

Has anyone heard anything recently? It seems like one way or another GEM will be sending out a lot of emails tomorrow.
-
I'm still listed as matched but I haven't heard anything from the GEM office, was anyone else contacted by GEM after being matched?
-
To all the people whose status are changing from Matched to Released, I think that might be a good thing. Check out my previous post where I reference an email I sent to GEM about what the statuses mean.
-
I just got it. I'm not sure if they sent it out to everyone or just people who haven't been offered the fellowship yet. My employer status just changed to "matched" a few days ago but I'm a little worried now that I'm not actually being considered since I just got the email. Also did you notice that there is a required employment period after completion of graduate school, I though employment through GEM was supposed to be non binding?
-
My Employer Member Status just changed from "Held" to "Matched", haha I have no idea what any of this stuff means at this point. Best of luck to everyone!

Thanks a lot for the input, I kinda was thinking the same regarding private vs public school funding.

Hey all, sorry I realize my post just above this one was obnoxiously long and I don't want to take over this thread, therefore if you want to reply I created a thread called "MSME at Berkeley" in The Bank where it might be better to respond.

Discussion of masters of science in mechanical engineering programs at uc Berkeley
-
Hi all, so I know this is a PhD thread but you guys seem to really know your stuff so I was hoping to get a little input on an MS related question: Basically does anyone have any idea how Berkeley handles MS applicants assuming the applicant did not go to Berkeley UG (so they wouldn't be doing the Fifth Year Masters Option). I know Berkeley's graduate engineering school is smaller than other top schools (with the exception of Princeton and Cal Tech) and that they have an enrollment cap which means they are preferential to MS/PhD applicants rather than MS applicants. Has anyone ever heard of a student who did their undergrad elsewhere being accepted to the MS program at Berkeley? I'm graduating with a 3.87 GPA from a top 5 ME program with 1 year of research expirence (no pubs) and I'm trying to gauge if I have any shot at all of getting accepted to Berkeley. I haven't heard anything yet from Berkeley which I know doesn't bode well but I did get accepted to fully funded MS programs at Stanford and MIT, niether of which I was expecting, so I guess as of right now I'm still daring to be optimistic. Thanks a lot for any input you can provide.

For those of you who had interviews with GEM employers, did they ever mention that it was related to GEM? I had an interview a few weeks back with a company on the GEM employer list but when I asked the HR rep if the position was related to GEM she didnt know what I was talking about.
-
This was the response I received from GEM a few weeks ago when I inquired about the process: "You will see your homepage Employer status change from unmatched, to matched, to held, to released as your application is previewed by several Employers. Do not be concerned with this status. No action is needed on your part." So it would seem to me that released is a good thing. Congrats! So does anyone know if the companies get to see what university you are going to attend before they agree to sponsor you or are these two totally separate processes? It seems to me like this could impact that decision if the university you are attending is on the other side of the country and they don't think you'll relocate after graduation. I applied for the early consideration option back in Oct. Sometime around Dec 10th (not sure exactly) my Employer Status went from "unmatched" to "held" and has stayed the same since. I didn't receive any email from GEM to contact the POIs at the schools I applied, maybe that could be because 7 of the 8 schools I applied to had already verified they received my application? Best of luck to everyone who applied! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Program: Mechanical Engineering Masters of Science Applied: Stanford, UC Berkeley, Michigan, Cornell (M.Eng), Princeton, UT Austin, Northwestern Accepted: Stanford (will be interviewing for funding), UT Austin (no word on funding) Waiting to Hear: UC Berkeley, Michigan, Cornell (M.Eng), Princeton, Northwestern
