  1. I've crossed a point where one minute, I'm thinking, "I probably didn't get in", but a few minutes later, I'm reassuring myself that I probably got admitted. And this process repeats endlessly. I'm turning insane.

This has literally been my thought process since I submitted the application! -.-

  2.

I have not submitted a copy of my taxes to Harvard because I have not completed them yet. Does anyone know if this will hurt my chances?

I don't think this will hurt your chances of admission. From what I've understood, the financial aid application process is completely seperate.

I'm hoping that's the case also!

Does anybody have any guesses as to when the admit student event might be, for planning-ahead purposes?

I'm guessing they will be the first weekend of April. That's when it was last year, and having it on the second weekend of April would be too close to the April 15th deadline.

  3. This may be giving away my stalkerish gradcafe tendencies a little more than I care to admit, but in 2011 and 2012, decisions came out on a Tuesday. Soooo it may even be tomorrow! EEEKKK! However, I'm still thinking it will be Friday for some reason..

I keep going back and forth on wanting to know the results or not! I kinda want to hold it off as long as possible in case I get rejected.. but then I want to know right away in case I get accepted! haha this process is really messing with me

  4. According to the HGSE website, it says Ed.M. notifications will be made available online March 24th?

According to the results page and last year's HGSE thread, it seems like Ed.M. notifications came out around the first full week of March. Hopefully it's that way this year too so we don't actually have to wait until the 24th.

  5. I applied to another MA program at Steinhardt, and after submitting my application in December, they contacted me last week to say that they never received one of my transcripts and that I should send it in the mail ASAP. Other than that, nope, haven't heard anything. Everything seems a little disorganized.

Thanks! That eases my mind a bit :) I guess the waiting continues...

  6. Has anyone heard back from NYU's M.A. program for Higher Education and Student Affairs? There is one post in the results page, but no one else has posted anything so I'm not sure if I should believe it or not. I have't heard from NYU since I submitted my application and I'm starting to freak out a little bit. Is anyone else in the same boat as me? Or has anyone else heard back from them already?

  7. Has anyone received a official acceptance in the mail? I received the email a couple of weeks ago, but I was just wondering if Michigan sends out a paper letter as well. I am old fashioned so I love receiving mail, especially if it good news like an acceptance! :) It's not a huge deal if they don't send them out, I just thought I would ask you guys if anyone has received anything!

  8. Thanks, HigherEd! I know it's silly to get nervous and worked up - and I've done so well for almost 2 months. The decision is most likely already made and completely out of my hands. I just want to know!!

Haha no need to tell me how you feel, I've been obsessing over this for way too long now. It seems like you've had a better handle on things that I have! But now that you're here, welcome to the club :)

  9.

My application page looks exactly the same as it did the day I submitted it. Is that normal?! It's making me nervous.

Mine looks the same too! No need to worry :) I think it will stay like this until the notifications go out

  10. With a decision as huge as graduate school, remember it's you and not your parents who will be pouring your sweat, blood, tears, and years into it. I'm sure they mean well, but sometimes people hear the name "Harvard" and can't think beyond it. If you loved Vanderbilt more, then go! Just tell them it's the "Harvard of the South."

I know, I completely agree.. Right now, I have only received information/visited Vanderbilt so I'm just going to wait until I get information from both schools (if I get in) before making my decision. That way I can make the most informed decision because it is such a big decision.

  11. However... My parents are telling me not to make any decisions until I hear from Harvard and that it's impossible to turn down Harvard. As much as I love vanderbilt, I don't think they will let me go to Nashville if I get into Harvard. I am so stressed now and don't know what to do if this happens. Is it bad that I want harvard to reject me so this decision is easier?

I am literally in the same exact position as you! My parents are the same way. I do want to wait until I hear back from Harvard though, before making any decisions. However, I just can't stop thinking about Vanderbilt! I guess the only thing to do now is just wait. And no matter what happens, we know for sure we will end up at a school we love.. so there's the silver lining I guess!

  12. Hmm, there's an entry on the results search page for masters result?

Hmm... Why do I have a feeling that it's a troll? S/he heard back Feb 24th which is yesterday. I figured there should be more entry on the result page by now.

Ya it seems like a fake result, though I don't know why someone would find that a good idea. To give them the benefit of the doubt, they may have been posting about a doctorate program and accidentally listed it as a masters program. Either way, I'm not taking it too seriously.

  13. FYI to those accepted into a masters program at UCLA's graduate school of education, they do not have visit days for masters programs. I called earlier today and the women said, although there are no specific visit days scheduled for masters programs, you can visit the school and they would be happy to give you information, show you around, and possibly sit in a class.

  14. I have also been tossing and turning at the possibility of having to make this decision! I've been accepted to Vanderbilt, and I'm just waiting on Harvard. I know it's not guaranteed that I will get in, but I can't help but think of all the possibilities. I also am applying for the masters programs in Higher Education, so I've been looking at all the rankings as well. I love the program at Vanderbilt but, like you said, it's Harvard...

Are you going to Vanderbilt's visit days next weekend? I'm hoping that will give me more material for my pros and cons list. If I get into Harvard, I'll definitely go to theirs too before making any decision. I really think seeing the campus in person and meeting the students and faculty will make the decision clear for me.

  15. YAY! I've been searching for other UC applicants! :) I've been admitted into the Higher Ed masters program at UCLA. I haven't received any information about visitation days, and I was wondering if anyone else has applied to the program and knows something about their open houses?

  16. I applied to interview for a graduate assistantship over the visit weekend but haven't heard anything. The initial email said we would be notified by today.  I felt my cover letter and resume were REALLY strong for the position I applied for and am very surprised I've heard nothing.  Have other people heard? Should I assume I didn't get the interview?

I'm in the same boat. I applied to two positions and haven't heard back from either one :/

  17.

    Also

Historically (ie results page) EdM decisions are early March, so it looks like at least three more weeks of winter for us!

I agree! I'm guessing we'll get notifications around March 7th... Is it too early to start counting down?

  18. I thought the admit rate was more like 40-45% for edm?

I don't think HGSE releases admit rate, do they?...

I found this website that has admit percentages for graduate schools. I'm not sure how completely reliable it is, but I found it interesting! You can also look at the admissions statistics specifically for masters programs or doctoral programs.

  19. Hey,

I'm not sure how assistantships work in the US.  How would I apply?

    Thanks!

I think it's different for every institution. At Vanderbilt, there are a couple positions available for graduate assistantships that you can apply to. Some schools guarantee that you will get an assistantship and others do not. I believe Vanderbilt is of the ones that does not guarantee an assistantship.

You should receive information on how to apply and available positions once you have been accepted. Since each school has different procedures for how to apply to assistantships, they explain it all in an email once you've been accepted. That has been my experience with two of the schools that I've been accepted to.

  20. Did anyone else in the Higher Ed program apply for the graduate asisstantships? Does anyone know if they are guaranteed for both years? It seems like a great way to defray the costs!

I am also in the Higher Ed program! :) I applied for two of the assistantships, but I'm not sure how long they last if you are offered a position. It would be great if they were though!
