  1. Hi Livgreen,

I am an ethics applicant. We overlapped at Emory, Yale, and BC. My other applications were to Notre Dame, Princeton, and UVA. One UK application, to Edinburgh.

I too have heard nothing from Emory so I assume that's out. But I continue eagerly to wait for some kind of word from Notre Dame!

    Hi Phd aspirant!

So, I know I am out at Emory, and possibly Yale, since I saw a couple Yale interviews appear in the results page, but I am still curious about the other schools. Have you heard from UVA or Notre Dame?

I know we overlap with BC, have you heard anything? The wait is killing me! :)

It seems like there are so few ethics applicants on grad cafe this year!

  2. Got an acceptance from the GTU today in the mail. Contingent on UC Berkeley's approval. Would love to go there, but it all depends on funding. Maybe I can be one of the lucky (very) few that gets some sort of funding.

  3. "Duke sends out first round of rejections the last week of January, and they invite for interviews the first week of February."

Is that Duke, as in Duke GDR or Duke Div? Or is that the same? And do they send out the invites first week Feb or interview 1st week???

According the results search, Duke GDR sent out invites for interviews the first week of Feb. I suggest doing a results search for Religion, and then you can look at the schools you applied to and see when they started responding in the past. This is all contingent on whether or not they keep the same response schedule as they did in previous years.

  4. According to the results search:

    GTU notifies early Feb.

Northwestern sends out some notifications in Late January.

Duke sends out first round of rejections the last week of January, and they invite for interviews the first week of February

Stanford sends out acceptances the end of January and end of Feb.

Emory already notified the candidates that they are interviewing the beginning of Feb.

Harvard, Yale and Boston College all notify the end of Feb and beginning to middle of March.

Who knows if they will use the same timeline this year as they did the last couple years, but I am holding out hope that they have! :)

  5. Who else is an Ethics applicant? Where did you apply?

I applied to Harvard, Yale, Emory, Duke, Northwestern, University of Chicago, Stanford, Boston College, and GTU. I haven't heard anything from Emory so I assume rejection there, and Duke had my application listed as incomplete until today, so I assume my chances are limited there as well.

  6. I am the lucky poster...I can't say I didn't cry a little and do some fist pumps upon hearing the good news! They may still be inviting folks, since the interview weekend isn't until February 5-6. I am interested in the other posting on the 15th about "budget cuts" reducing the interview weekend this year... anybody have any more info on that one?

As far as details, Emory is my top choice; I didn't make the interview weekend last year, so maybe this will end up a success story? Livgreen, I hope you meant "fun" as sarcastically as possible...this process is sadistic!

Many Congrats! I hope that they are still inviting people, but my hopes aren't high.

Yes, I did mean "fun" in the most sarcastic way possible. :)

  7. Don't know. I'm not expecting interviews in my subject area. Overall, I think interviews are fairly rare in the humanities, relative to social science or the hard sciences.

Emory does an interview weekend for the Religion Department. It is stated on their website when you apply.
