  1. Hmm I wonder if the school has a forum or place where they can connect you with other students also looking for housing.

To anyone going to orientation tomorrow, please fill me in on what's discussed. I unfortunately won't be able to go to orientation until June 12th.

Also has anyone heard anything about scholarships? Thanks!!

  2. HI Maggie:

You can see whats required your first semester in the manual at the back: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/socwork/pdfs/student-handbook.pdf

The only class I don't see on the schedule is Ways of Knowing. So I'm not sure if they changed the requirements for that class this year. The other 4 are available though.

As for housing options, craigslist is best source for finding roommates. I would start there.

  3. Hi Anna,

Nothing happened after I created my account. Most of the info is outdated.

I only submitted my field placement form and scholarship form last Friday and haven't heard anything since.

I'm going to the Pre-Registration session on June 12th. I think most of our answers will be given during the pre-orientation. I know many of you are going on May 29th. Please let me know what is discussed then if you guys get a moment.

The Fall 2014 schedule is posted on the Social Work's website under Registration so you can have an idea of the time schedule/classes.

I'm in the Two Year program. Which program are you part of?

Classes don't begin until August so I'm sure they aren't in a rush to notify us of anything. The current semester is over in 2 weeks and they are probably prepping for graduation. We probably won't get anything addressed until June.

As a former CUNY student, the first semester is always a lag because of orientation but after, it's pretty simple to create your schedule and get everything completed. Your advisor should take care of everything.

    Hi pmelwani,

No,  actually I live in the city.   But after you created your CUNYfirst acct, (probably bec you're a former CUNY student that it went so quickly), what happened next?  Did you go down for a field placement interview?  Did you find out about your scholarship awards/financial aid package?  Which MSW program are you going with -- 2 yr, OYR or Advanced?  Are you able to register for classes?  Please let me know any additional info that you have.

    Thank you so much,

    Anna

  4. HI Anna,

Yeah I think it was after I received the email that they received my deposit. I think I tried a few weeks back and I wasn't able to create an account. I sent in my deposit on May 1st I believe and I received the email on May 6th. So it basically took a week for them to process my deposit.

  5. This is very confusing.

I mailed my commitment deposit over a week ago and got an email confirmation a few days later, which is good. I have my Empl ID#, but can't yet use it to get access to my CUNY first account (which you need to get your financial aid award/loan offers). Called today and they said it takes a while to process all of that, so just have to wait it out.

I still have to find immunization records and ask someone about field placement (since I don't yet know where I will live in NYC, which affects where you are placed). There's a lot to figure out and it feels like there's no direction. It's also frustrating because a lot of links and forms found on their websites are outdated.  <_<

    Hi Maggie,

How long after did it take to get your Empl ID#? Did it come by email? My commitment deposit was received and deposited this week. I got the email as well that they received it but haven't received my Empl ID# yet. By any chance is this the number that was on the commitment deposit form? Thanks!

  6. Hi,

I will be attending in the fall as well. I think you can estimate. You probably won't get more than the estimated cost of tuition and living expenses so I would estimate the max amount you can receive/will require.

When you sent in your deposit, how long did it take for you to receive your EMPL ID?

    Thanks!

  7. Thanks so much!! This is very helpful!

The questions were right in line with what Linclon Love and others have said in this post.

-what is your work experience and how does it relate to social work, and why did you choose hunter.

-How do you define your social identity. What are the implications that your social identity can have on your work

-A short vignette that the moderator reads and the group discusses how they would address it

    -20 minute writing sample.

There were 8 students being interviews in total. 5 students were there for the two year program, 2 for advanced standing and 1 for the OYR program. The whole process took around an hour and a half. The moderator was really easy going and let the group know exactly what she was looking for. If the program is right for you and you it, things will go really smoothly. I think there was great importance paid in not just your answers but how you functioned in the group and listened to and bounced ideas off of the other potential students. The best thing that happened was being there early and getting to talk to each other informally. Really helped to calm nerves.

    Hope this helps.

  8. I spoke to him on 3/21, my status changed to pending interview on 3/23, the email to schedule my interview came on 3/26, I interviewed on 4/2 and was accepted  on 4/3. So excited.

    Congrats! Are you going?

My application finally says Pending Interview as of today!! So hopefully things can be settled soon.

  9. On the section of the website, it says not everyone will be interviewed. But not sure how up to date that is.

    Hello Everybody,

I have been reading this topic since the beginning, waiting for somebody to post my situation. It hasn't happened yet, so I registered to ask you guys - maybe there is somebody out there walking in my shoes.

I submitted my application in late February, but it didn't become completed until March 11. I had to take the TOEFL test, and the result came in late - but since I asked them to oversee the delay, it wasn't an issue. Beside that, the day I got the "green light" for the extension, I also got an email saying that they extended the deadline for all applicants until April 1st.

Last Saturday (March 22) my application status changed from completed to PENDING PROGRAM DECISION.

Since everybody talking about PENDING INTERVIEW, and there is only two posts about this status on the "WorldWideWeb", I'm asking if anybody knows what does it means.

The day I saw the "pending program decision", my brain went haywire.

Maybe they want to interview the ones came on time. Maybe they want to offer me a different program (of course they don't), maybe maybe maybe ...

If anyone knows what exactly this means, or had the same experience, please share.

Thank you, and best of luck to everybody!

  10. I called Mr. Angulo on a Friday, his phone office hours are from 3-5. He was able to pull up my application to make sure it was complete and hadn't fallen through the cracks. The number is 212-396-7627.

Thanks! Do you know what time you called exactly? Because I tried to call him on Friday as well around 3 and no one picked up. I tried several times until 5 and kept getting his voicemail.

  11. Hi,

I too am still waiting to hear from UIC. My app was completed Jan 17. I just noticed last week that all my application items were finally checked verified so I'm hoping they make a decision soon. Best of luck!

    Hi everyone!

I have been hanging around looking at posts and thought I would say hey and see if there's anyone to commiserate with!
I'm still waiting to hear back from UIC.  From what I've read UIC is notoriously slow.  I feel pretty confident that I'll get in because I do have a pretty good GPA -- 3.59, some relevant volunteer experience and a Psychology degree from UIC.  I think I wrote a darn good personal statement too.

But I do get myself into a panic every once in a while.  So I just thought I'd see what anyone else's experience has been with UIC.  I read somewhere that the acceptance rate is 77% which makes me feel pretty hopeful.  Has anyone heard back from UIC yet? Or applied in the past?

    Thanks!

  12. When did your application become complete sslove? Mine became complete on 02/25/14, and I still don't have any sign of progress. I tried to call today too and the guy who is in charge of my application's voicemail said to call back on Friday between 3-5pm if it pertains to your application status.
