I felt kind of pressured into applying--"It's such a good opportunity!"--but kind of felt in my heart of hearts that I needed to settle down. I went to grad school in Chicago last year, and I was so, so lonely. I was so relieved to move back home and get a job. I think this is the universe's way of telling me to stay put for a while. I do think everything works out the way it should, so I wish everyone the best. I know I never really got into the "spirit" of the board (only started commenting in the past few weeks), but everyone seems like such passionate, intelligent, and committed people. You'll do wonderful things wherever you go. Mazel.

Rejected from Norway. Honestly fine about it. I've moved to four states in the past four years, so the thought of uprooting again made me feel sick to the stomach. Good luck to everyone else who applied to Scandinavia--you should be hearing shortly! (That includes you, Blue Bird!)
-
Blue Bird, I just changed your info from "rejected" to "recommended." I think there was some confusion with whoever was editing the sheet.

Hi NoNorway, Sorry to hear about that... NKR would be a really interesting outlet to work with. I figured it might be a Scholar grant, but I think everyone's nerves are so on edge right now (including mine!) that we were all nervous. What was your project about? Also, there are a ton of other grants for journalists to go abroad; I'm sure you've already looked into them, but if you want to keep pursuing this project there must be other ways of funding/outlets. I have a friend on a journalism grant in Brazil right now.
-
So, anyone find out today?
-
I honestly don't understand the motivation in any way, but as a Norway applicant I was very confused also.
-
Also, State Department approval? Like, I know they have to finalize our country's decisions, but do they ever actually...reject anyone at the last moment? What would ever cause someone to get an acceptance rescinded at the very last second?
-
I'm glad. I think we've all had some serious heartbreaks before, and the best thing you can do is delve into a new chapter--new city, new studies, new hobbies, new life. I'm glad you're moving forward into the future; it'll do wonders for your happiness and growth. Good luck!

Eileen O'Malley? Sounds like her.

Same. In years past, Norway's already heard. We're skirting the edge of "tardiness" this month! Anyone talk to the FPA at all?
-
Any Scandinavia lurkers in here?
-
I'm very curious if that means that non-scholars (students, ETAs) are hearing back soon also.
-
Fulbright Scholar awards are different than ETA/student grants. They are for professors/scholars with a substantial amount of research experience, and they usually get to serve as an adjunct faculty member in another country.
-
I saw on Twitter that someone was awarded a Fulbright Scholar award to Norway. Does this mean Fulbright ETA/student grants are next?

Norway is super late this year. I kind of wish I had someone to freak out with on this board--only Blue Bird can share my country-specific angst! The representative said "sooner rather than later," but that was last week.
-
..Do they ever send out emails after 5 p.m. EST, or should I just stop checking my email and go home from work? Also, congrats to everyone who heard back today! How exciting.
-
Thanks!

Anyone know what time Western Europe usually sends out letters?
-
Hmm, curious what Norway does.
-
Wait, it's included in the subject line?
-
Scholars hear back in January. Oh well!
-
No, they applied for journalism (which I also did, full disclosure), and Norway only has scholar, student, and ETA grants.
-
I was always a tad skeptical of that one Norway applicant because they put they'd first heard preliminary acceptances in early December.

She said, "I'm the person who presses the button to make the emails go out. I would know."
