Hello! I'll be attending the phd in Africana studies, moving down there from Toronto!

Got rejected from my number 1 (Harvard, which in retrospect was a poor fit), but got admitted to my number 2 (Brown), which has me pretty excited. I didn't interview with UPenn (i'm guessing this is an indicator of some bad news to come for me) but I haven't heard anything from their department yet. What was your interview like?

Actually my research focus is on the spatial imperatives of death and catastrophe in the afrodiaspora, with focus on the americas. You're right about me being positively obsessed with all things hip hop though! My friends nicknamed me trapscholar because of my somewhat unapologetic approach to academia haha.

Thanks!!! I posted my acceptance on feb 12. I'm hoping harvard takes longer to decide on international students, or i've been waitlisted. Anything but a dreaded rejection!! I'm very grateful for brown though. Good luck to you!
