  1. Hi y'all, I've been following the forum for a while, and thought I'd say hi. I attended CalArts MFA interview last week, and was wondering if anyone has heard back from admissions. I saw on the Grad Cafe Survey that someone was accepted to the Photo and related media program via the website. Is the website the application one, or the VIP cal arts page? Any news about CalArts MFA would be great.

    Thanks!

My result was out last Saturday.

    Good luc!

  2. Has anyone heard from USC or UCLA yet? Geez they are taking forever.....

Interviewed with UCLA on Feb.19 (suppose to be Feb.17 but I missed the call). And now I am extremely anxious to hear back... I checked result search that people got rejections notification on March.15 for the past years... And I feel hopeless now..

  3. I would give Caron a call. I had a call from faculty a few years ago and didn't hear back for a week so I called to find out I was waitlisted. Never got off the waitlist, applied the following year with no luck there. A year after that, I was waitlisted again without receiving a phone call from faculty.

It never hurts to call administration with questions.

Thanks Lenore. Did you get in for the third year? I really tend to believe if they accepted me, they would call me much earlier.

  4. Your welcome! Have you visited CCA? or know someone who went there for school? I wasn't able to visit and really don't know how it will fit me.

I applied to two programs at SAIC. I received an email on 3/6 about award notifications that a package will be sent in the mail, but I think its for the Arts Admin program I was accepted to previously? But i remember already getting one. So now I'm thoroughly confused about my Sculpture application. I have no clue!!!! gah.. its confusing. Did you go out in person for you interview at SAIC as well?

Feel free to PM me if you would like.

    Hi Yellow Magnet,

I applied to photo mfa in SAIC but I know that sculpture and photo interviews are on the same day. Does the email mean accepted?

  5. So if there has been a UCLA acceptance I would suspect that they are just starting. In the past they seemed to have rolled out over the course of a week or so. I did notice yesterday that the format of the application status page had changed, but mine still says "To date, no decision has been made on your application." Good luck everyone.

I am wondering if painting and photo come out about the same time? Thx

  6. Hi Shaoceptual,

I had a Skype interview with them on Monday, and they wrote me Thursday saying that I was chosen for the wait-list. They have already offered acceptance to their chosen candidates. There's only 7 MFA photo spots. Did you have an interview?

    Hi Oakchild,

I haven't heard an interview and I am sure that means rejection. But it is not in my top 3 choices since it's location. Thanks for the info and I wish the best for your chance to get in!

  7. Just got an official email saying I'm wait-listed for RISD photo... I am kind of surprised, I feel like I bombed my interview big time! So I'm glad that I'm wait-listed, but also frustrated since all that means is more waiting. And can I just say that Skype is the worst way to talk to people?? Seriously awful.

Anyone out there apply to Stanford's Art Practice program?? And are people getting results about CCA? I'm thinking I'm officially out of luck there, but don't want to give up just yet...

    Hi Oakchild,

How RISD said in the email about wait-list? I applied their mfa photo as well but they said admission will be made on March. I am confused.

  8. Oh... I was confused by the wait in your signature. I thought it meant wait-listed. So cool you got contacted by Catherine Opie. That's the best part of this process, getting to speak with people who blow your mind artistically.

I heard a great quote today, "Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait, and wait without anxiety."

I feel like confidence is its own reward so I'm just certain that wherever I end up being accepted is exactly where I need to be.

    Ellephoto,

Sorry to cause that confusion. I feel the same way and I just treat the process as a critique from lots of giants meanwhile just wait...

  9. Thanks for all the info, much appreciated. Where all are you applying too? Did you get any acceptance notices yet??

I applied to tons of places since I am afraid end up having nothing. Current situation:

    Rejected: CMU. Yale

    Interviewed: SFAI. CCA. UCLA.

    Will interview: ICP-Bard. CalArts. SAIC

    Wait: RISD. Columbia U

  10. Oh cool How Is UW's Photo program? Good facilities and faculty? I interviewed with Rebecca Cummins, she seemed really cool.

People here are extremely nice. You would feel like a family here but at the same time, critique might be too polite sometimes not sure you like it that way or not. I actually just got off class wth her. It's a really progressive program and Rebecca and Ellen are my mentors that I couldn't say enough good things about them. For facility: 1st yr three grads share a big studio and 2nd year each grad has own studio. Darkroom and photo media lounge(printers, scanners, mac pros and sofa) are pretty much 24/7 for grads and monitors. Michael Van Horn is our respectable technician, who really cares about your prints and he is an amazing artist too. We also have a tight relationship with DXarts program which dealing with mechatronics, sound/video processing and 3D stuffs. Ok enough good things but I really have a wonderful BFA experience here. The only bad thing I would say, it's the weather in Seattle area. From October to early March, more than 50% days are wet or cloudy but everybody has a preference (romantic or mysterious in rainy nights?)

  11. Hey Shaoceptual,

For future applicants (I don't think anyone else will be getting a call before decisions this year) and general curiosity: would you care to share what your convo with Catherine Opie was like?

Edited to add: If you don't want to answer this, for any reason, I understand...just if you are so inclined.

Yeah why not. At the beginning I was just super stoked about the fact she actually called me and the first time I didn't hear it so I called back and scheduled another time. Basically we just kind of went through my practice and she talked about the admission situation this year and informed me it is very very competitive. She is pretty nice and down to earth and we talked about LA a bit as well. Then I asked several questions. The whole talk lasted about twenty minutes. I have been anxiously waiting since then. Hopes that helps.

  12. My partner and I are both applying to UCLA for the MFA program. My status says "Submitted- pending descision" while his just says "Submitted". Not sure what the difference is, but that has how it has been for about a month. May not mean anything.

I see but I really believe they will call or email to give applicants notifications and then change the status in their system. Did you or your partner get a call for interview by any chance?
