  1. Hey everybody. I am graduating in May with my Bachelor's in Science (Biology) and I have recently decided to purse SLP. I will be taking the year off to take missing pre reqs. In this time period, I want to get as much resume building experience under my belt as possible, but I am having trouble finding things in my area besides shadowing. I will be living home in South Florida (Coral Springs), so if anyone is familiar with good places to get involved with over the next year, I would really really appreciate it! I am willing to drive to surrounding areas (West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, etc,), so if you know of anything around there, please please let me know!
  2. yes, I named the FSU and UF bridge programs specifically because I emailed before I knew about USF's program. They said people have done those before and they accept them except for the extra classes specific to UCF that I named before. But it's so hard to get a definitive answer, I feel like I don't have all the facts :/
  3. yea i also found out by emailing the advisors there. They said you must complete SPA 3123L and SPA 4326 at UCF
  4. It just gets a little tricky with school-specific pre reqs. For example, UCF requires pre reqs that HAVE to be taken at their school only UNLESS you are not out of field and already have a bachelor's in CSD. But it might make more sense for me to stick with UF since I believe that is my first choice school, and then apply to UCF and take their extra pre reqs when the time came if I had to go that route.
  5. Thanks for the reply! I am leaning towards the second bachelor's also since like you said, it's the same amount of time and money. I have a pretty good gpa from my undergrad so I think I'll be okay in that area but hopefully a 2nd bachelor's looks better to a school regardless.
  6. I'm deciding between completing an online post bacc through UF or an online 2nd bachelor's in CSD through USF. I think I want to go to UF for my Master's but I figured that if I completed the 2nd bachelors, I would be able to apply to more schools, just in case. If I just do UF's post bacc, I'd be missing pre-reqs for schools, including USF, UCF, and FSU. I'm basically looking to hear from someone who is completing/has completed either of these programs. I assume the 2nd bachelor's would be a little more intensive (it's 2 more classes total), but I wanted to get some feedback. I've been accepted to both programs, so it is time for me to make a decision, but I don't want to go in blind!
  7. This thread has been super helpful for me! I am about to graduate from UF in May and have recently decided to pursue SLP, making me an out-of-field applicant (I'm a biology major). I definitely want to stay in Florida for the master's, but I am having the hardest time finding out information about all of the different programs. All the programs seem to have different pre reqs, so I basically need to pick a school and complete their pre reqs because it's impossible for me to cover them all! I am most interested in UF and UCF's programs. I like that UF has an online post bacc program I could complete my pre reqs through and UCF offers a 3 year catch up program. I've noticed that UCF's program is 72 credit hours, whereas UF's is 50 something. UCF also has a part time and full time externship making it seem a lot more clinical than UF. However, UF has the name, so everyone assumes it is a better school. I'm sure both programs offer a good education but I was wondering if anyone has more insight into the quality of these programs. P.S. I have a 3.89 GPA (for my bio major), haven't taken the GRE yet, and am working on getting as much SLP-oriented experience as I can, just to give you an idea on stats!
