  2. Hi, You can find an apartment at a comfortable rate of $950 up to $1200. Depends on where you look though. I live in Allston, but in the neighborhood, where I am...there is a lot of Latino/Asian immigrant families...and its not as nice where the students tend to live. (Note: Allston is filled of rats...)....if living 5 minutes away from Brighton Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue is a big deal for you, then go ahead and live in those parts...but I do understand rent prices are a tad higher. Its all about planning and doing things ahead of time!
  3. Ya'll need to head over to East Boston, lol. Ya'll will rejoice over the Colombian, Salvadorian and Mexican cuisines. Boston is wonderful...except the snow and cold. ))
  4. Hello everyone! I am enrolling this fall at Boston University. I was wondering if I signed up for Health care insurance, via the Affordable Care Act, if that coverage would be accepted and considered equivalent to a private insurance provider? I ask because I was enrolled in a subsidized health care program in Massachusetts, which was considered not to meet the "minimum standards" for UMass Boston. If somebody knows the answer please let me know! I rather save a few hundred bucks especially starting this humongous financial journey.
  5. I also wanted to add to my last post (I got cut off because of internet connection)... i am worried a lot of living costs. Boston is expensive! I'm doing some research if the Massachusetts State Government has loan programs (at no interest) for social work majors. I will be happy to update you all, if I can get any valuable information or leads. But I'm projecting to be in the hole (20K when I finish my studies to supplement rent/food costs). This isn't going to be free nor cheap for nobody. ALSO<, If anyone wants to friend me in the Facebook! Introduce yourself via Facebook and I will be happy to connect! )
  6. @sweetpie: I have no idea. My supervisor was a BC MSW student who worked a lot with adolescence/delinquent juveniles populations; and our organization is strictly about youth and families, so I'm sure they taught her nothing but good things at her site (and classroom) and hence is my wonderful boss. I also know of a BU MSW Grad who did the same thing working with kids in Roxubury who were doing poorly in school and providing counseling & mentorship. I think if you have a specific questions you should type up on facebook: BU (or BC) social work groups and see if you can post a question on their discussion boards/group timeline. Also, I got from BU a 100% tuition discount thanks to their Urban Practice Scholarship. So that alleviates a lot of worries for me...
  7. I live in the area and strongly recommend to a lot of pre-planning! There are parts of Allston where you can rent pretty cheap. It all depends....Boston isn't cheap lol
  8. I'll be enrolling this fall! I will concentrate in Clinical Practice and hopefully do the "group work" certification.
