Last time I had to do SoCal to this area, I was able to get a reasonable Southwest flight from Ontario to BWI. I'm not sure where in SoCal you are, but that might be an option. Although they say to fly into Reagan, BWI is just a four-dollar, 35 minute commuter train away from Union Station in DC, and it's really easy to take the subway from Union station to Reagan, so you can still get the hotel shuttle. Also, I'm taking the 12:17 pm Amtrak from Baltimore, and should be at Union station around 1, if anyone is headed in that way and wants to get food together. There's a lot more restaurants near union station than there are near Reagan airport.

I only waited about 5 minutes calling SATO, but maybe it's shorter if you are getting train tickets?

trademe says it requires people to be New Zealand or Australia residents to join. NZ folks, has anyone figured out a way around this, or a way to email folks with listings without being a member?

New Zealand folks: is anyone else going to Christchurch? If so, would you be interested in sharing housing? Most of the guest houses and places with reasonably priced housing for one say they have no vacancies for that time.

My host professor told me that the hosts for NZ had to confirm with Royal Society of New Zealand by the 12th, so I'm guessing the NSF is just waiting on the confirmations from the host institutions before sending out the orientation info.

I called Anne at 11 am eastern time yesterday, and she picked up right away. She was very friendly about taking my call, and forthcoming about when I would hear back.

I just received a tentative offer for New Zealand! Also, for folks waiting for any other countries, when I called Anne Emig this morning (before I got my offer) she said all countries should be out by the end of the month.
