Hi, I've been looking through UNC (CH) website for social work and it seems like they offer various merit scholarships with full tuition for those meeting their academic criteria for GPA/GRE, etc. Does anyone know how many of those they give out per year in the MSW program and what's the GPA/GRE that's expected? Thanks!

Thanks for all your input... for thumbnail, I know you mentioned you just finished the MTS at Duke, is the program pretty rigid in their structure or will they allow you to tweak the curriculum to your own interests? I'm also coming from another master's degree so I prefer not to repeat introductory classes...

For their MTS? Similar financial package with merit scholarships (though not full tuition). Any thoughts? My interests lie in probably doing a PhD in New Testament down the road. THANKS!

Hi Shebelle, Thanks for your message, but yeah... this is the religion section and I was wondering more about their Graduate Department of Religion and their PhD acceptance rates for that this year... thanks though! gluck with the neuro... I was a bio major so I know how that is

It's been a while since I've had to get any letters or rec... and I'm wondering, what's the typical way to thank professors for writing them these days? Would a thank you card suffice? A small gift? What do you guys think?

Anyone that got into Duke MTS get a financial package in the mail or email yet?

Wow that is sad news... I didnt apply to U of C NT but still... it almost looks like UoC's viability as a good NT program is somewhat diminishing from what I can tell

I got rejected for the biblical studies MTS as well.. I dont mean to sound presumptuous but I was very surprised at the rejection. I felt that I was more than qualified for the program... weird! Not too bummed about it but still, makes me wonder what it is they were looking for

Darn Is it that bottom left section called, "View Online Decision" for the OPUS? I'm also applying to the MTS at Candler... still says 'not available at this time'... The suspense!
-
Wow Congrats, can I ask which program you applied to?

Hahah ok, thanks everyone. Good advice. Short and brief. Take out the "bs". Good luck everyone!

I'm in the process of writing a few of these, and the schools seem to say, "no more than 2 pages", etc. Does anyone know if they are sticklers for length and the formatting? If they say double space but you submit 1.5 space, will this be a negative factor in your application? I'm trying to write these statements and 2 pages double-spaced is impossible! Maybe 2.5 pages would be alright... THANKS!

Wow, I didn't expect such a long thread... thanks so much to everyone for the input. I originally flipped out when I saw that I got the dreaded 600s for the verbal portion, but I see what you mean by solid research, methodology, and "fit" being the more important factors for the application I'm not even applying to PhD right now so I guess I shouldn't freak out too much, but I just wanted to do well the first time around so I wouldn't have to worry about it come PhD application time after my MTS degree in a year and a half Thanks everyone and best of luck to you

Man.. I didnt know that such "hard caps" existed! And that other theory about profiting from application fees and advertising the caps is very devious if it is really true... Anyway, I'd love to get into Univ of Chicago's NT PhD program later... would my 660 be a longshot to even get past the initial stages of applications? Dang that verbal section.

670 verbal, 770 quantitative, waiting on results for essay (I feel pretty good about this section) 3.9 GPA, MA in New Testament Actually not applying to PhD yet, but just wanted to know if this score would be good in a year and a half when I'm applying to PhD for New Testament during my 2nd masters (probably MTS or STM degree) at a major research univ. Any thoughts?

On most people's radars, Harvard Divinity doesn't seem to be on the "list" anymore... are there any particular reasons for this? Also, what's the big difference between MTS or ThM and if I already have an MA in New Testament, it ThM the better route? THANKS!

anyone know about funding for MAR?

I'm thinking about applying to some MTS and/or PhD programs but I'm wondering what my chances are: Undergrad: UCLA (BS Biology) GPA 3.0 Grad: Talbot School of Theology (MA, New Testament) GPA 3.91 GRE: I haven't taken it yet, but from my friends that have taken it, I doubt I will get anything below 1400 (this is not to sound cocky, I'm just familiar with standardized tests) I'm wondering if I need to do another masters or do you think my chances of getting into any top-tier NT departments in the US are good?
