  1. A new development in the Rutgers saga: I caught the geography office administrator lady on the phone today. She told me that I was admitted, but without funding. She said that she was "just now" entering this information into the online system, but that it may not show up for a "couple of days." That is some slow ass computer processing. So anyway, if folks are still waiting, you may want to try calling.

  2. @Tommy421: I got an email notification from Clark this morning that I was accepted. I also saw a rej. posted yesterday. Seems like you should hear from them anytime.

Is anyone else applying to Rutgers? Still silence from them...

  3. I was accepted to the University of Washington today. They said they cannot guarantee first-year funding at this time, but that this "may very well change in the coming weeks as our funding situation becomes clearer." I guess that means I'm in the second tier of accepted applicants and will have to wait for responses from first tier applicants. It still feels good, though. Its a competitive and well-regarded program that is perennially underfunded.

  4. First admit! Wooooohoo! From Bonnie Williams, DGS at Minnesota: "Just a quick note to let you know that we have recommended you for admission and have nominated you for a Graduate School Fellowship. A letter is in the mail to you today with details--thought you'd like some good news going into the weekend!"

  5. I might as well get it started for this year! There doesn't seem to be a ton of traffic on this site for would-be geography grad students, but perhaps they are just hiding and not posting. :) Anyway, I haven't heard anything back yet from my programs yet. Wondering if anyone else has any response from geography departments?

  6. hey all,

i know we see lots of these "what are my chances" threads, but what can i say. here's another one!

my interests in geography are primarily at the urban-environment nexus, and i have always been drawn to critical theoretical approaches. i plan to apply to minnesota, clark, washington, ucla and perhaps to the new urban studies phd program at temple. also perhaps at georgia, as i am drawn to the work of nik heynen. i was also thinking of arizona (paul robbins) but i keep reading that their funding situation is a mess.

here are my stats: masters of urban studies at portland state university, 3.97 gpa (not the best institution, i know, but good for sustainability studies). gre: 800 v (booyah!), 720 q, 6.0 analytical. my recommendations should be pretty stellar.

do folks think i have a good shot at gaining admission AND FUNDING. in particular, are there any programs i shouldn't bother applying to because they don't really ever fund anybody? any that fund the heck out of folks? given my interests i know i should be applying to osu, but DAMN i do not want to live in columbus. no offense to anyone who loves it, but what can i say?

also my family lives in minnesota and i was thinking of stopping through the dept before i apply. but folks in this forum have suggested that this is a bad idea. it is the school that i REALLY want to go to and i don't want to mess it up. thoughts?

    thanks pals.
