  1. I would really love to go to Goldman, but I didn't get funding. I remember other folks in the same situation posting in previous years about how they planned to make it work financially with the fee remissions that come from graduate assistantships. This seems really risky to me, given that they're not guaranteed (and Berkeley is an expensive part of the country to live in). Is anyone else in the same boat here? Thoughts?

  2. 1.  Graduate school is one of the best places to facilitate a major career shift.  Going from IT into education management or public sector consulting is a lot easier by going to a school like Michigan.

    2.  Ford probably has some of the best funding in the country.  If not from outright scholarships, then from GSI (teaching assistant) positions which pay full tuition plus a $1100-$1800/month living stipend and health insurance in the semester you work.

    3.  Future plan?  Long-term: charter school management, but will probably spend a few years in consulting after graduation.

    4.  Here is where we tend to go: http://www.fordschool.umich.edu/career-services/graduation-internship-statistics/  I don't have any figures on placement %, but expect that it's in line with everyone else.

Thanks for this great info! How hard is it to get a GSI position? And about how many MPP students would you say also work either at the school or elsewhere while completing the program?

  3. I'm in too!!! One of my dream schools, but no mention of funding in the email.

However, on UofM's Ford Funding Opportunities website it says "Fellowship award letters and emails will be sent a few weeks after students are admitted." Does this mean there are multiple rounds of offers? I was expecting at least some kind of tuition remission!

I spoke with them today, and was told that funding/fellowship information comes separately and we should be notified within the next couple of weeks (contrary to what notmike was told above). I got into the MPP program -- maybe MPP and MPA were done differently?
