  1. I'm applying to audiology programs for the third time around. Last year I had been waitlisted at uOttawa and spent my summer waiting and waiting and driving myself nuts. This year I am debating what to do exactly.

The first time around I had applied to Western and Dal (before the GRE was necessary) and last year just to Western and Ottawa. This year I've since taken another course, and by January should have finished another. I've been working full time in audiology for 2 years now so I have tons of experience. I'm upping my volunteer hours with committees and coaching to be more well-rounded.

Debating whether I can squeeze in the GRE in January so I can apply to Dalhousie, and how worth it it would be. Wondering if Western is just marks based and I should just forget about it? And considering the hearing instrument practitioner program, a bit of a step down but I will at least have a pretty good scope of practice in the field, but will definitely be limited as to the populations I can work with.

Arggh. People think SLP is tough to get in, try having maybe a quarter of the seats across the country!

  2. Has anyone gotten off the waitlist for Ottawa yet? I was kind of hoping to hear from them this week since the ORPAS deadline has passed. I don't know if I should contact them to get more information about the ranking as they mention on their FAQ webpage that they could add an unfavorable note to your file if you do so. It s a disappointing situation right now, I'd like to move on, but I would also need a definite answer! I can't imagine myself being in that situation until August...

Still on the wait list myself but for audiology. I'm wondering though how strict they are about that note to your file. I just want to know how long the wait list is active at this point! It makes it really difficult to make plans to improve my application for next year and other life things!

  3. Thank goodness! Ottawa has finally let me know ive been waitlisted. So more waiting, but a different kinda stress now!

As much as id love to be your classmate and all for anyone considering between speech and audiology at uottawa do your research and make a good decision (hopefully speech so I get in ;) )!

  4. So I just feel the need to post this to a. vent about it and b. Warn anyone considering uottawa about the mess that is their administrative department. The deadline for uottawa to inform us about admission decisions was the first, like all other Ontario schools. The first passed by and stressed out me got zero emails, owl postal service or letters streaming out of my chimney. (Those are the typical methods schools use no?) Anyhow, contacted the head of the graduate admissions department the next day to ask whats going on and she forwarded my info to their secretary. According to their records they emailed me. Well no, you didn't. There's absolutely nothing from you in my inbox or spam or whatever. So she tells me to call her. I don't even want to say how many times I have called and messages I have left. But still, no answer.

And now its the weekend and I have to wait again until Monday to start this process over again.

  5. They sent a followup email to people who went to their interviews and it says that they will send out their replies through email according to the deadlines listed on ORPAS. I'm assuming they'll follow the April 1 deadline but I'm not sure. I've already bought some wine as well!

I was reading this post thinking that I missed that email and turns out it was sitting in my freaking SPAM folder!!!! Arghhhh. Thank you for that!

  6. Okay trying to save myself a night of sleeplessness waiting, western's emails are automatic. Anyone know about uottawa? It looks like the process there is completely different from last years! This wait is really starting to kill me, but I do feel like i have an advantage since I'm on mountain time I will hopefully hear back at 10ish march 31st and have plenty of time for wine (for celebratory or consolatory reasons) and still be able to show up at work the next morning!

  7. Hey Charleezweez! All I know is that between SLP and audiology combined they interview a max of 90, but that depends year to year. And there are 20 spots for SLP and I want to say 9 for audiology? But I could totally be making those numbers up! Wish I could tell you more!

Yep I checked the orpas pdf document and they have figures for how many applications to admissions they had last year which helps a bit. Someone asked our bell ringer how many they had coming for interviews and I couldn't remember the answer! Oh well, guess I'm just stuck waiting these next 2 weeks out!

  8. I too have been lurking and its time to post! I've applied to audiology at uottawa and western. Had my uottawa interview yesterday and while it wasn't my best interview I'm happy with it! Does anyone have any idea how many people they are interviewing over the next few days? Im just trying to figure out my odds!
