Hi all, My adviser received an email yesterday stating "I am happy to inform you that your DDRIG proposal...was ranked as highly competitive by the STS panel. The STS program intends to recommend this project be awarded." So is this like a done deal? Email also said: "The award is not official until it has been approved by our division directors and the grants office here." Does anyone know how consequential this last step is?

I applied for STS. My status is simply pending, went to external review on 3/27. No word from them of any kind.

I got a Fulbright to Colombia! Full research. Congrats to those others selected, and my very best wishes to those who will be pursuing other avenues next year.

Not sure if you Colombia applicants saw my earlier post, but I was actually initially rejected and then got an email on March 24 informing me that Colombia got extra grant money and that the Colombian reviewers had therefore requested more applications. FWIW. I'm full research, not ETA, but this could be what is holding up the process. They had to wait for transcripts from me and whoever else was invited late into the game.

....and then there's this: "I am pleased to inform you that due to an increase in funding, the Fulbright Commission in Colombia has requested that IIE forward additional candidates for their review. The National Screening Committee gave you a favorable rating in the fall and with the additional grants, your application has been forwarded to the Commission for further review....This letter is not notification of a grant since the number of recommended candidates exceeds the number of awards available. The notification timeline varies by country. Final selection notifications for a particular country cannot be sent until the country has made its final selections and the candidates have been approved by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the U.S. Department of State." All the hallmarks of an abusive relationship.
