How is Center Ithaca at 171 E State Street to stay in? Is that a good area with good bus connectivity to the Engineering Quad?

Could someone please post the link for off-campus housing for Cornell? Any particular list you are looking into? I only found the on-campus housing options. Would appreciate help. Thanks !

Cornell website lists a lot of options for on-campus housing. But does anyone have an idea which location would be ideal for someone who will be joining the Computer Science (Engineering) department? The campus is quite spread out so off campus housing near bus stops could be better and closer to where classes will be held. Requesting people who have any info on this to share.

I have been accepted into the M.Eng Comp Sc program at Cornell. Turned down MS CS offer from Columbia after much deliberation. I did a lot of research and somehow in the end was convinced that Cornell is the right choice for someone who wants to join/go back to the IT industry after their Masters. I have heard excellent reviews about the program and placements.

How is Cornell Comp Sc for specialising in Security? I know it is excellent in Systems and Programming Languages.

The prerequisites for M.Eng in CS page (http://www.cs.cornell.edu/masters/apply/prerequisites) web page mentions some concepts of embedded systems as necessary. Since I have a background in Computer Science and not electronics/electrical engineering and worked in software industry, I have no familiarisation with embedded systems. Is this necessary for all M.Eng CS applicants, considering I want to specialise in Security or Software Systems?

I believe for MEng in CS we are expected to know basic coding in Java and concepts of database systems, OOPS, algorithms, etc. Any suggestions for someone who has no experience in coding?

This is what I gather so far: Tuition is $1640 x no. of credits = $55,000 Living expenses approx $2500 x 18 months = $45,000 TOTAL = $110,000 How much can a student make as TA/RA or with part time jobs during the course? Also, how much does one get paid during the internship? Finally, when the program is done, what is the average starting salary for an MS-CS grad from Columbia?

Does anyone have any idea where we can get to know which books are recommended by Profs in Cornell for any particular course? I found the list of courses but cannot find any book list as such. Specifically, I am looking for books needed for courses in the M.Eng in Computer Science.

I got an admit for MS-CS at Columbia. Does anyone have any info about internship opportunities during summer and TA/RAships for grad students (not PhD)?

I got an admit to the MEng in Comp Sc program at the Ithaca campus. Are the placements for this course as good as any 2 yr MS course like the one, say, at Columbia? Also, will it be really hectic completing 30 credits in 2 semesters?

I am an international student and have got offers of admission from Columbia University for their MS-CS program and Cornell University for their MEng program. I have 2.5yrs work ex in the Indian IT Industry and 5 yrs work ex in my own startup. I have been a consistently good student all through my school and undergraduation years. I am having a difficult time choosing which college would be better for me. 1. Cornell is a 1yr program so I can start working sooner. However, do companies give equal weightage to 1 yr MEng and 2 yrs MS courses when it comes to hiring? 2. How are the placements for MEng in CS at Cornell as compared to that for MS-CS at Columbia? Is getting a job immediately after the course equally possible in both colleges? 3. Will taking 30 credits in 2 semesters be really tough? Or is it simply that a 2yr traditional MS course is a safer way to go? 4. Since Cornell is a 2 semester program, there is no scope for doing an internship during the course. Will this be a disadvantage in any way for someone who has never worked in the US for getting a job after graduation? Bottomline, I would like to know which program someone in my position would choose and why. Any helpful info/experiences will be highly appreciated.
