  1. That's an interview from hell! Honestly I feel like I could have a nightmare like this. Good luck to your fianceé though! Interesting that Harvard is recording the interviews though...
  2. I'm right there with you. That's a good quote for the situation, and if I may add my own, then it's leve fit quod bene fertur onus. Preach it, Ovid.
  3. Beatrice- I'm doing an MA in Classics there now, but I've taken classes with my POI and talked with him about my plans. So here's hoping! Kallikratidas- Awesome! I'm super relieved to hear it might not be over yet. Can I just say that you guys are the best? It's nice to talk to people who get the (semi-crazy) over-analyzing that happens during applications!
  4. I still haven't heard from Harvard. It seems like remaining schools should go out this week, for no other reason than to stay competitive with other admission offers. This is a weird question, but do you always need an interview to get in somewhere? I know usually programs require them for new faces, but if you're already attending that university or have worked with the professors, is it possible that they might not require an interview? Though you're probably right about moving on, RedViper....but it's hard!
  5. Yeah, she is so nice (and also brilliant)! Good luck
  6. Congrats! PM me if you want to know more about the campus/living in the area/etc.
  7. Can any of you guys claim the Columbia Classical Studies postings that just went up? Congrats! (Though that was my top choice by far so I'm pretty bummed)
  8. I haven't heard anything from Harvard, or seen anything on the boards. I did notice that two invitations went out from Michigan's IPCAA went out on the 4th, so I guess that's my first unofficial rejection. At least it's news (sort of). Beatrice- I feel the same way about Texas! Though I do know people from there and they assure me it's lovely. And as someone living in NY right now, I am so jealous of your weather situation. It sounds like the perfect range!!
  9. I'm curious, if you had to choose a school based only on its location, where would you go? You applied to a nice range, so you'd have the chance to see so many different parts of the US!
  10. I was wondering about that math section in the application. I haven't taken a math class in 5 years, I don't understand why that's even there for us/humanities in general. Hopefully they don't value it too much, otherwise we'll both be getting rejections.
  11. This is a great idea! We could all use some mental away-time I think. I really only got interested in Roman/Etruscan archaeology as a sophomore in college. I was a Psychology major at the time and went to Italy to study Italian, and just fell in love with the art and archaeology (and subsequently the languages). Though I have always loved history throughout my life. As a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist, so archaeology isn't THAT far off! If I could have any torso, it would be the torso of a bird, because that'd mean I'd get wings. Flying would be so cool.
  12. Yay! Congrats on Stanford, mystery users! All this cold and snow here in the northeast makes me wish I'd applied to some southern/west coast schools.
  13. I just figured it out a few days ago! You can change it under the editing options for your profile (I kept looking for it somewhere in the text box). Guys, I just have to share: this wait is THE WORST. Hopefully this will be a big week and we can all celebrate.
  14. Never leave Etruscan archaeology! It's the best!! Where are you applying?
  15. A viking excavation would be so cool! Also nationality in the Aegean is where its at. I love identity studies and looking at how people dealt with new ideas/art forms...or old ones with new interest. I think the same thing! Or that I won't have a good enough idea of where I want my thesis to go and they'll just laugh and be like no we don't want to babysit you while you come up with a thesis BYE. But that's crazy, probably.
  16. I am! I'm mostly applying to Classical Studies though. I'm most interested in Etruscan archaeology, but also in Roman collecting and re-interpretation of Etruscan materials/culture. Also Southern Italy's late Bronze Age contact with Greece. Basically I love anything pre-Roman, even though Roman stuff is also completely fascinating. To be honest, the thing I fear most about whatever interviews I might get is the question about what I'm interested in. It's all awesome. How on earth can I be concise about a field that's so interesting in various ways?? What are your interests?
  17. Thanks, birchleaf! Some inside info to soothe my nerves is always nice.
  18. Two more interview invites from Michigan's IPGRH program went on the results today. As an IPCAA applicant, I hope those two aren't too closely connected. Birchleaf, I hope schools don't get delayed because of the storm! Everything is done online now, and it's just mean to keep us waiting!!
  19. Mine is an Epicurean saying from funerary inscriptions. Gotta keep things cheerful
  20. Same, I've heard nothing so far. It's probably too early to worry, but I will anyway.
  21. Hi everyone! I joined so I could lament the horrible waiting process with all of you. I applied to Columbia (Classical Studies), Harvard (Classics w/ Archaeology focus), UPenn (AAMW), and Michigan (IPCAA). I know Columbia will send out invitations to their prospective student weekend by the end of this month, so fingers crossed!
  22. I was wondering the same thing! I have a draft that starts with research interests and then talks about past research/experiences in generally chronological order. I'm nervous it'll seem too much like an expanded, paragraph-form CV.
