  1. Spent last 2 years in Northwestern. Extremely awful weather in the past winter. DO buy big coats and snow boots (or you can buy them here, but they will be expensive). For people spending their past years in the tropical area, summer in Chicago may seem fall or even winter to you guys. BUT one good thing: lakeshore view is AWESOME!

  2. Thank you! I know the program in Northwestern provides lots of engineering courses which I think is very helpful. Since the biotech and pharma markets are so competitive, I really want to be prepared more about the future. Do you have any recommended classes you think are really useful?

If you are determined to go to the industry, I would suggest some business and management classes.

  3. Thanks for sharing your opinion with me! I actually applied the MS Biotech at Northwestern, which's my dream program, but they put me on the wait list...

I really want to work in biophar companies, but I have heard it's getting harder and harder for international students because the companies do not want to provide sponsorship.

Do you know which field in biotechnology is widely used and good for job finding?

    Thanks again!

To be honest it is really up to you. Our program focuses on bioprocess development. In biophar companies you can find such jobs in product manufacturing and recovery. Co-op will increase your chance to find a job.

  4. Have you contributed something to the field the likes of which no one has ever seen before, that would create a paradigm shift that changes how everyone relevant in your field will think for centuries to come? No? Then don't appeal. Closest thing people do is do something relevant for a year and reapply, after asking what they could do to improve their applications this cycle.

Yeah, you got the point. The fact is that I have talked with one of the professors in the admission committee and got some kind of support from him, but the reason I am rejected is that there are not enough professors to provide rotation slots. Anyway thanks a lot.
