Congrats! How's about MPP program? I heard that all HKS students have Quantitative score above 160, is that true?

Definitely not. HKS hosts a "math camp" before the program starts for students who don't have strong quantitative backgrounds. I think students are invited to math camp based on either a low GRE quant score or if they lack introductory coursework in statistics.

  2. I'm 25 but I'll be 26 once school starts. I got in everywhere I applied, which I absolutely did not expect! I'm currently trying to decide between HKS, UW Evans, and UT LBJ.

Work experience was a HUGE factor for me - when I finished undergrad, I thought I wanted an MA in international affairs. I then got a job at a non-profit and realized that analytics were critical to our work, which is what led me to pursue an MPP. People say this over and over, but it really is true - working for a couple of years before going to grad school gives you so much clarity.

  3. Admitted to MPP! So now we (or at least I) get to agonize over for the next three weeks over whether or not this will be a financially feasible option...anybody want to trade the names/make recommendations of all the random external scholarship programs they're applying to to pass the time? I'm pretty sure there's more money out there based on my ethnicity than on the fact I want to work in public service which kind of blows my mind...

I'm with you! Would you attend HKS without funding?

  4. I don't know that the breakdown is as simple as east vs. west, but I do think schools in certain markets think very highly of themselves for geographic reasons. I'll call out GWU, who admitted me with no funding at all even though I got into three higher ranked and (in my opinion) much better schools with ~half funding. I got into UW Evans without any funding any everyone I spoke to there was extremely polite and helpful. I literally got laughed at when I called GWU to get some information related to funding.

I'm sure it's a fine program, but I get the impression that if they weren't in DC, most people wouldn't have even heard of them.

I spoke with a really snide faculty member at GWU when I was first looking at grad programs a few years ago. It really tainted the whole experience for me. He kept insinuating that I didn't go to a good enough university to be considered for GW (?)

I went to an SEC school for undergrad and no, it wasn't an Ivy, but it didn't seem to stop UW Evans, Georgetown, and USC from offering me admission to their programs. Thanks GW!

  5. I just logged into ApplyYourself seeing that another person posted on the results page that their admissions decision was uploaded there. So was mine!

Anyone still waiting to hear back from McCourt should go log in and see if there's news waiting for them! I have not received any email, FYI. No mention of merit funding either.

I took your advice and saw that I've been admitted! Thanks :)

  6. Hey,

Congratulations on your financial aid offers!

I have a couple of questions: What is the date on the letter you received by mail? Do you guys live in So. California? I live in the Bay Area and think that it would not take long for the mail to arrive here from LA.

The wait is just driving me crazy. Maybe I'll receive something on Saturday. If not, I guess it's going to be UCLA for me...

    Thanks.

I also live on the West Coast, and the letter was postmarked Feb 17.
