  1. Does anyone want to claim the Notre Dame acceptance? Looks like it went up in the last hour or so...
  2. Mr. Speaker (I'm looking to study Congress in grad school so I get your username )- Vanderbilt is my undergraduate alma mater and I was a poli sci major there. Although I didn't apply, only because I think it's important to do graduate studies somewhere different than where one does his undergraduate studies, as I recall from talking to professors in past years, they usually didn't accept people until late February and didn't reject people until early March. For you and anyone else who gets in and is interested in American politics, feel free to PM me on here if you have any questions about particular faculty members/Nashville/the school/the department. It's an awesome place! Best of luck to you!
  3. Would have been rejected at Yale but decided to save the money on the application fee
  4. Well, this has been quite a crazy week with respect to admissions. I guess I have a somewhat clearer idea at this point of what to expect. Main thing is that I will have to hear from Minnesota. One of my LOR writers was nice enough to e-mail some of his old professors from Rochester and went to bat for me. Just continuing to wait and see. I'll look forward to when we can all make a new thread and talk about where we've decided to accept offers. I'm definitely keeping various people on this board in my prayers as some of the schools they're looking at get ready to make decisions. I know it will all work out for everyone in the end.
  5. Talked to the graduate coordinator from Rochester. She said that all applicants have been either accepted or rejected but for two who are listed as "pending". I'm one of those two. She said that likely means I'm wait-listed (they normally keep their wait list to just two or three applicants) but that she would get back to me officially via phone tomorrow or early next week.
  6. With regards to my top choice, Suddenly Paranoid, so far I would say it's hard to distinguish between FSU, UC-Davis, and UT-Austin. Will be visiting all three. Rice probably lags those three a tad, and then Georgia and Oklahoma run way behind (in fact, I probably need to, in a seperate post, get some advice on how to go about turning down their offers- do I do it when I've decided which offer to accept or do I do it earlier to help people on wait list but at the same time if asked where I'm going have to tell them that I haven't decided but I know you aren't it!?) Still need to hear whether I'm wait-listed at UNC (though very doubtful), as well as what Rochester, MIT, and Minnesota decide. So sadly, while I know the aforementioned schools are reaches, this process is far from over.
  7. Just got into Rice with $18k of funding/year for five years plus tuition waiver. Nice offer, not sure I'm gonna go, but nice offer...
  8. Congrats to all those admitted to UT-Austin today! I'll claim the latest acceptance posted under "government" (I had to remember to change my personal statement for them because of that, too, no mention of "political science", haha). I also was admitted to Oklahoma, although that is probably not where I'll be going . Still have no idea why Rochester can't just put me out my misery and tell me I'm rejected. Dude...it's just one click of a mouse!
  9. Well, I don't have much to do but twiddle my thumbs at this point, so I made a timeline of what remains in my admissions process. As people know, some of the schools left on my list are ones I probably won't go to but nothing like a self-esteem boosting acceptance, right? (Haha, kidding) February- 9 or 10 schools with eleven business days remaining in month (Monday the 15th is a holiday) This week- UT-Austin and Rochester (2) Next week- Notre Dame, Maybe Florida, Oklahoma (2 or 3) Fourth week of February- UNC-CH (waitlisted or rejected?), Iowa (are they even gonna offer anyone funding?), Rice, SUNY-Albany, Maybe MIT, Maybe Florida (4-6) March- One or two schools in five business days First week of March- Minnesota, Maybe MIT Ah, the joy it will be when this is all over...
  10. Well actually, now that I think of it (and I do welcome any feedback anyone who applied to Rochester has on this matter), it's hard to know what's going on with them if they e-mailed some poor soul on Friday telling them they're in and then five days later tells them they're rejected. One of my LORs went there for his PhD so I had hoped that would help but who the heck knows. Also, have we decided UNC is finished at this point? It seems that's how they handled it last year (aside from one person coming off the wait list in April), but again, would be interested to hear people's thoughts. Just got some good intel on UNC. Talked to Chris Reynolds there, she said that all acceptances have been sent out but that the adcom is going to meet a week from today to decide a waitlist and will then notify people the next week (so in other words, two weeks from now). So those of us who haven't heard anything are either rejected or waitlisted.
  11. Are any Rochester applicants here in the awkward position of not having received an acceptance or rejection e-mail? It seems like they've sent out both types. Yet I haven't gotten anything. Waitlist maybe?
  12. Rejected at UCSD, but not too much of a surprise. At least I can finally go to sleep now, lol (in all seriousness I think I'm just gonna brave the rest of the day so I can get back on a normal sleep schedule). I actually talked with three faculty members in the AP subfield at UCD today and the more I hear the more I like the program. Would I have liked UCSD? Sure, who wouldn't, I'd be totally lying if I said I'm not disappointed. But God makes everything happen for a reason and if getting rejected from UCSD was the worst thing that happened to me in my life (and trust me, it is NOT), then I'd be doing pretty damn well. Let me extend and a sincere and heartfelt congratulations to those who did get in though! It's an accomplishment of which anybody should be proud! So, now I can relax for three weeks, wait to hear from Minnesota, and then assess the situation from there. I'll still be of course interested to see how all the people I've gotten to know by their screen names progress in their decision-making these next few weeks. I wish everyone the best of luck!
  13. Btw- here is text of Emory reject Thank you for your inquiry, I apologize for the delay in replying. Decision notifications from the Graduate School will be sent via email on Friday, however I can tell you that we will not be able to offer you admission. The applicant pool this year was not only extraordinarily competitive, but also considerably larger than recent years. We received 150 applications to fill only five slots available to us. I regret that we will not be able to find a place for you in this fall’s entering class. We sincerely appreciate your interest in Emory and wish you success in your academic career. Denise Brubaker Academic Department Administrator
  14. Well, great day on my end. Emory rejection went from likely to official! Oh well, I'd have taken Davis over it anyhow.
  15. Thank you, Pablo for clarifying. Congratulations on your fellowship nomination. I would be shocked if that didn't mean you were admitted. However, I echo natofone's question: was it an explicit acceptance or just asking for more info b/c of your fellowship nomination? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that's a sign of good things to come, but just for clarification purposes I'd be interested to know whether they outright accepted you or not.
  16. OK, I was embarrassed to say this at first because I thought I was the only one, but I'll confess I'm kind of a nervous wreck as well. I've been checking up on this site every 5-10 mins and couldn't even sleep one minute last night thinking about whether we'd hear from UCSD today. They really had better just get it over with tomorrow, as they did it on a Wednesday last year. If it's not gonna be till Thursday- well, then boy I'll be pissed off. And btw, I know Minnesota is no Harvard but it's still a very good school and near the top of my list, so I'm taking the posting the same way you Harvard people were taking the one we now know to be a fake. Thus, I would greatly appreciate it if the person who posted it either explain the admission or admit it was a prank (if it was so).
  17. So I guess our Minnesota friend is staying in the closet for the time being...
  18. Wait...before I go postal, someone better claim that U of Minn acceptance that just got posted! Wtf, I thought we all got that e-mail that it would be early March...
  19. Congrats to the Harvard admit! UGH! So I broke down and called UCSD...again! Ms. Evangelista said "by the end of the week". Please!!! End the suffering!
  20. Oh, also, in a bout of restlessness just because ANY news would be nice at this point, even from a school that I would probably turn down for UC-Davis, I called UT-Austin and inquired. They said e-mails will be sent out "in the next day or two" and that hard copy letters will be sent out sometime next week.
  21. OK...I'm obviously very desperate to hear from more places. I checked the results board for last year's cycle it appears that people got automated e-mails late afternoon from UCB last year and then some more the next morning. Also, UCSD sent out e-mails around 10am PT. And BTW, this board (created by yours truly ) is about to break 50,000 views!
  22. Do DJ_CA and Cicero mind sharing their GRE scores? I'm just kind of curious what these top UC programs are taking these days (though of course know it's only one factor)
  23. Congrats to the Berkeley acceptees! I wonder if this means SD will be out today, too. That's what happened last year...
  24. I have to say that of all the programs I've had to wait on, UCSD is the most painful. I think my chances for admission are slim, but if I do get in then that's definitely where I'm going. If luck has it, my search process could end relatively early, but we'll just have to see. If I had to predict I'd say we're hearing Wednesday- that's what happened last year. Anybody have any information indicating otherwise? Anyways, congrats to those who got good news today. Here's hoping for some good events tomorrow!
