Rejected from Michigan. This was posted on wolverine access
The Graduate Admissions Committee wants to thank you for applying for graduate study in the Political Science department. We regret to inform you that the Graduate Admissions Committee is unable to recommend you for admission as a graduate student this fall.
This year, the Department was only able to accept a small number of applicants. There are many excellent students whom we have been unable to accommodate.
We appreciate your interest in our Department and extend our best wishes for the future.
Ditto... Shortest, least sympathetic rejection note ever!

Badusername, would you mind sharing how you got the acceptance, e-mail, regular mail, phone call?

Ok, so this forum is mega-dead, but on the off-chance that someone stumbles through here, I have a question. I have a single day in LA to visit on my own, with no access to a car, and starting in a hotel near USC--what should I do with my day? Please note that I will be severly jetlagged...

I will assume then "BadUsername" that you have an acceptance to American? Would you mind sharing? Were you given funding.
Ummm, yes, I guess I have to come clean. I was accepted with a 10k annual stipend, plus a work option for another 4k, plus of course tuition waiver.
My subfield is kind of all over the place, mostly IR with a heavy doses of comparative and theory.

I have been to both (went to undergrad near Boston; ex-girlfriend used to work at Yale), and Boston wins in terms of location no-questions asked. Not to scare you off or anything if you're leaning towards Yale (whose campus itself is very nice), but my ex actually quit her job at Yale halfway through the year because she couldn't stand New Haven any longer.

Ummmm, at least some PhD acceptances are out.

Ok, what about European studies, particularly EU studies?
Canadian schools (including York)

Just rejected at York, via a personal email from a faculty member there. Email contains this interesting tidbit for American students: "We [i.e. York] are allowed only four international applicants plus two for the reversion list [i'm guessing this is Canadian for wait list] and you were just outside the admint/ reversion pool." So basically, very hard for international students to be accepted... Congrats to those admitted!
