  1. It is some what easy to decide between two top ranked schools, but what about schools that are not top ranked? I was accepted to Bloomsburg U. and U. Montevallo. How do you decide between the two when there is not a ton of information about either program. Visiting is a good idea, but not financially feasible since its $400/ticket to AL and we, my husband and I, would have to drive to PA (more time consuming than expensive). Both programs cost roughly the same amount. So how do you decide which school to accept?
  2. Just spoke to admissions at Cal. State Fullerton... said file was completed 4/15 (even though it was mailed in January!!!) and now it will be 4-6 weeks before it gets sent to the department! That is the end of May before it will be reviewed by the department! Dumb system in my opinion. Accepting somewhere else for the time being.
  3. Anyone hear from Cal. State Fullerton?
  4. I still have not heard from CS Fullerton. Did you get an update on the online status or an email/phone call/letter? I already accepted one offer from somewhere else but I would still like to know if it is an option, ya know!?
  5. Anyone waiting to hear about fin. aid from Bloomsburg this is the response I got. Hope this helps. The budget for the Pennsylvania State System will not be finalized until approx. June. After that point, we will be able to award assistantships based upon academic standing. If we can, we will provide you with an 1/8th time assistantship for the Fall 2010 semester. The current value of the assistantship per semester is: Eighth-time GA’s:5 work hrs. per week Per Semester: Receive a stipend of $652; student pays for 6 credits ($2,220) + fees If we cannot give you funding for the Fall 2010 semester, there is an excellent possibility for the Spring 2011 semester since we will have more assistantship money to use at that time. I am sorry that I cannot give you a definite answer re: assistantships at this point, but I still hope that you will give us serious consideration.
  6. I just got accepted off Bloomsburg U. wait list this morning. Yay me! But the email said I have 6 days to accept or decline. 6 DAYS!? That is not even until April 15th! I am still waiting on 2 schools to tell me yay or ney, and 1 school which I am on the wait list for. "If you would like to accept this offer, I will need to know your response within 1 week (by 4/13/10). Once I get an affirmative response from you, our Graduate Office will send you an official letter of acceptance."----- Does this mean I am paying a deposit or do they just not want to waste paper on me if I am going to say no? Should I call my other schools and ask when they are in their decesion process? April 15th is sneaking up quick! What about financial aid? When do I learn anything about that? Help please!
  7. A school just took me from mile high to rock bottom in about 5 minutes. I got an email about financial aid (means I'm in right!?), transferred to admissions, told they don't have my college transcripts and they don't have my GREs. Whaaaaat?! The deadline is like a month past! She was like "You never got a notice that your application was incomplete?" I was like "No. Just the opposite, I emailed and was told they would contact if/when they needed more info". I swore up and down to her that I mailed/requested everything and she felt really bad for me, but told me most likely I had to reapply for Spring admissions since the deadline is so far past. After we hung up I searched through my paperwork and found the receipt from one of my colleges saying they mailed my transcripts on 1/8! I called back with an ingenius idea, don't know why I didn't think of it before I hung up the first time... college/GRE was under my maiden name, I applied under my married name. Hopefully she finds everything and connects the dots. Praying they are still looking at applications in the department, or that they will at least look at mine since it was a clerical error, not really my fault! The application asked for the name that my records would be sent under. Totally bummed at the moment. Not that I reallllly wanted to go there, just that it is a possible "no" because of a mistake not my academics/person. Good thoughts/karma sent my way would be appreciated.
  8. I was wondering the same thing. I was waitl listed at one school and the letter said "You are in our top-tier of wait list students". The other school I got wait listed from I had to reply if I wanted to be kept on the list or be crossed off since it wasn't an immediate acceptance. I want to call and ask how their systems work (are students weighted? can I find out what number I am from the top? etc) but I don't want to be the annoying millionth call that day about silly things like that. Why don't they just post this stuff online!? Jeeze people. You have people freaking out, give them something!
  9. I heard from U. Nevada Reno yesterday. The letter was addressed to Hillary X... my name is Victoria X. Praying Hillary got rejected and there is still hope for me. Not likely, but optimism is all I have at the moment.
  10. I got 2 letters in the mail on Monday. I tore the end off the first one and then decided the room I was in wasn't "right"... so I moved to the kitchen table. First letter was a wait list. Oh disappointment. Second letter. Second letter is obviously going to be a step up- an acceptance! Deep breath, tore off the end, slowly unfolded, (should have switched rooms- obviously the table was not the right place), and there it was- a rejection. And then I cried and hid the letters in my nightstand drawer thinking I would tell my husband later that night. Still have not told a soul, besides you all. Today I got another letter. Thinking I've got 1 rejection, 1 wait list, here's my 1 acceptance! Noooooope. Damn wait list again. To the nightstand drawer you go. I am picturing the day I get my first acceptance letter or my last wait list/rejection letter and how I am going to dump all my other letters on my husband's lap and let him read them himself as I sit and cry (hopefully happy tears of being accepted somewhere).
  11. Got a letter from Montevallo today. Waitlisteddddd. Grr. I just called the Graduate Studies office and the woman was a biotch. Evidently she couldn't understand my "accent" (I live in the Northeast). I literally had to talk to her like she was deaf- really slow and somewhat loud. Then she said "Did you apply to the speech pathology program? You need to talk to them". Click. I wanted to call back and be like "Listen lady. I might be the 1,000th person to call you today but there is no need to be snarky" (then hang up on her).
  12. You most definitely need to work on your GRE score. 640 total is not good (sorry to be blunt). Maybe you missed typed and that was just one of the scores out of the two? You should have a math and verbal score, anything under 1000 is a definite retake. You should be getting at least 500 in both sections. Good luck!
  13. Passive Chicken might be a better word.
  14. Bamagirl- Have you been brave enough to call Montevallo yet and see when they plan to send out letters? I'm way too passive to call anyone!
  15. I have 1 rejection, 1 wait list, now I just need 1 acceptance to round out the group. Let's go people!
