  1. Congrats! And, I LOVE Glasgow...probably one of my favorite cities in the world (partially because I studied abroad there)
  2. Great news for the new acceptances/waitlists!
  3. Just to note...I'm very disappointed/unimpressed by Juno :/
  4. I didn't know that Duke notified so early (but makes sense considering their early deadline)!
  5. Sorry to hear that, WT... just think...when you finally get your acceptance, you will bring your S.O. that much more joy! haha
  6. I've only had one Skype interview for an Am. Studies PhD program, so I can only speak to that. It was very quick (around 20 minutes), and it was with both the DGS and the Program administrator. They basically only asked me one question ("Why us?") and left the rest of the time for me to ask questions. I *think* the purpose of this interview was to confirm my interest/fit in the program. It was a great chat, and overall, nice to meet people on the other side. As for preparation, I felt that as long as I knew my SoP, my sample, and generally the intellectual priorities of the program, I would be fine. That turned out to be the case.
  7. Welcome! And not creepy at all...I'm rooting for you as well!
  8. Crazy! I wonder if any other English PhD programs are also interviewing this year...
  9. Congrats, new admits to Wisconsin-Madison!
  10. I mostly applied to NYU because I could see myself working with multiple professors, so I thought they'd be a great fit. I'm curious, what did you not particularly like about NYU's programs in general? Feel free to PM me, if you'd like.
  11. Welcome! I'm assuming the first larger waves of notices will start rolling out within the next 2 weeks... :/
  12. Haha that was great...my friends have been telling me to get into Portlandia...maybe this is the time...
  13. Oh no, you didn't come off as rude. That's a great list! We definitely have some overlap for sure. I'm applying to UCBerkeley, Harvard, UPenn, Duke, Michigan, and UCLA for English PhD programs; Stanford MTL, Yale, Brown, UC Davis - Cultural Studies, USC, Minnesota, and NYU for American Studies
  14. Yes! My partner is a Chemistry major but decided to go the MD/PhD route. He's applying with me this year. My first acceptance this year was also a place that sent my partner an offer. We still have to wait to hear back from the rest of our programs, obviously, before we make a final decision. But, nonetheless, it's great to know that we have one option on the table. Fingers cross that it works out for you!
  15. Haha sorry! I'm on the mobile version, so I can't see your signature. Awesome! I personally love the east coast.
  16. Welcome! I'm in the same boat. What programs are you applying to?
  17. Great to see the first large batch of English acceptances! Bravo, everyone!
  18. USC American studies and ethnicity - I'm very excited to be potentially working with some rock star scholars, including jack halberstam, Nayan shah, etc. I hope no one minds me posting American studies results here...the interdisciplinary forums seem rather dead. This forum has become my home anyway
  19. Congratz all! I wanted to share my second PhD acceptance this weekend with you all. I'm very grateful to have heard back already from two very strong programs that are also great research fits. Again, I applied to both English and Am. studies programs, so I think they have different timelines. I'm actually somewhat speechless at this point. Best of luck to those who are waiting...fingers crossed for good news soon!
  20. Anyone want to claim the University of Maryland (English PhD) acceptance?
  21. I would LOVE to work with him...or...even just be in his presence.
