[Direct Entry to PhD Programs in UK after Undergraduate？]

I wonder if it is possible for someone to get admitted in a PhD program in UK after finishing her/his undergraduate study, because it seems that the opportunity for funding would be a little better if someone got in PhD programs. But maybe you must finish a MA (MPhil,  MLitt, or whatever) degree before applying to PhD in UK?

I wondered how important is my TOEFL score during the application. Should I just reach the minimum score (such as 90 in many schools) proposed by graduate school or try to get as high a score as possible? Thanks in advance!   

[Submitting a longer writing sample than the required length?]

The required length is 15-20 pages, is it possible to submit a 24-page writing sample (including one page of abstract)? Or the requirement just means that they would just read no more than 20 pages even if you submit a longer paper?

I am not a native English speaker, and my AW score is very low (3.5), although my V+Q score is quite high [330 with high quantitative but low verbal (160)]. So should I retake the test?

[Questions of an Applicant from a Non-English Speaking Country]

Hi all,

 

I am an international student and am looking for some advice about the application of ancient philosophy graduate programs. Although my undergraduate GPA is quite high (nearly 3.9) so far in my country’s evaluation system, it is of course not equal to the one in the US. I wonder whether I should apply for MA or PhD programs first, and what schools may fit me well. I know there is nearly no MA program specialized in ancient philosophy in the US, but I can also apply for the relevant programs in Canada or UK (And a following question is that whether to choose a one-year taught program or a research one in the UK). 

 

My next question is about the GRE, I heard that some schools use score cutoffs, what I wonder is that whether the school would lower the minimum qualification of GRE of international applicants whose first language is not English and would also take into account TOEFL score when the committee evaluates applicants’ GRE performance.
