Finally rejected by Chicago; completely expected at this point. I was admitted to MAPSS, which makes me feel a little better, at least.
-
I hope it's helpful for someone, it's a great program.
-
I'm also on the waitlist for theory at ND. I plan to have my name taken off.
-
Congrats on JHU frosted - thats a realy great program. is it your top choice? when is visitation weekend? and any word on what the stipend is this year?
Also, congrats on Northwestern and ND, those are both terrific for theory. Do you know toward which one you're leaning?

Congrats on JHU frosted - thats a realy great program. is it your top choice? when is visitation weekend? and any word on what the stipend is this year?
Thanks readeatsleep - I'm very excited about it. Chicago, Duke and Harvard were my top places; I'm guessing it will come down to Columbia and JHU for me, and I feel very lucky to have that choice. The email indicated that a package was on the way with further information, which I hope will address the items you mentioned.

Congrats!
Was that a mass email or a personalized one? Thanks!
Thanks, I'm very excited - it was personalized.

In at Hopkins for theory. A very nice way to end my application cycle. Congrats to everyone on their acceptances, and best of luck to those who are re-applying next year.
-
Thanks for the info. How did you find this out? Or is it just guessing?
No insider information. I just based this on when acceptances have been reported in the last couple of years. I really should've added that, and so I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression.
-
Has anyone heard anything from Johns Hopkins? I'm not expecting to get in or anything, just wondering when I should expect to get word.
Acceptances should be out tomorrow or Friday (or the beginning of next week at the very latest). I'm certainly not expecting to hear anything, but it will be nice to know that, for me at least, this long and unpleasant process is finally over.
-
Congrats to the Harvard admits (especially SP, I have no idea how you do it). Based on last year's results, JHU should be out very soon. I can't wait until this is finally over.
-
I wonder why there haven't been more UCLA acceptances posted. Perhaps they haven't sent them all out; then again, it is the weekend, so maybe people just aren't checking. In any event, congrats to the admits!

any pol theory admits?
I'm in for theory.

I've also started to get more and more worried about California's financial problems, which is complicating my decisions greatly. The fact that UCSD seems to be rushing to get admitted students to commit to visiting without giving any financial information at all worries me for some reason.
On an unrelated subject, I've received nothing but rejections this week so I'm hoping tomorrow will finally bring good news (for a lot of us).
I'm also increasingly nervous about UCSD's funding. It also happens to be my only offer thus far. The way things have been going, that may not change, and so I'm now starting to get really anxious.

Rejected at Berkeley. No surprise. At this point, should I end up going 1 for 14, I'll feel blessed.
-
I'm Alex, and I'm a "fourth-year" at UVA. I'm from western New York, so should I end up in San Diego, the weather will certainly be a nice change.
I'm a theorist, and my primary interests are in Continental political thought, especially Nietzsche and Heidegger; Tracy Strong is the principal reason I applied to UCSD, since he's published a lot on the former.
This is the only school from which I've received an offer so far. While it'd be nice to have another acceptance (I'm mainly looking forward to hearing back from Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, and UCLA), UCSD has great people and is in a great place, so I'll consider it pretty strongly if I'm admitted elsewhere.
This thread is a cool idea. I look forward to meeting you, Taylor, and anyone else who decides to post in March.

I'm hoping we'll hear something from UCLA.

In at UVA! (American Politics)
I'm thrilled.
Congrats! Now that you are actually in, I can say that I think you'll have a very good time working with Winter, Freedman, et al. (Claibourn and Sanders also do public opinion, although I'm not sure how quantitative their research is).
-
Also rejected at Yale. Not that it comes as a surprise, at least.
-
I don't think I'll visit. I know I'm declining it because 1) Wisconsin is a a better research fit for me, and 2) Wisconsin is substantially higher ranked than UVA (#15 vs. #33) and, while UVA's program is very interesting and they have great faculty, I have to keep my job marketability in mind.
There are a lot of great faculty here at UVA. I assume you wanted to work with Allen Lynch; never taken a class with him, though I've heard very good things. Nonetheless, I can easily understand you wanting to go to Wisconsin.

Am I missing something? There has been no claim for Cornell on this board, right? I would not count myself out this early.
There haven't been any, although there have been a couple on the results page. I suppose we can't say for certain.
-
Rejected at Texas also. Congrats to those who got in!
I'm guessing that no word from Berkeley, Chicago or Cornell means rejection there too....this has been pretty rough so far. Then again, it's not surprising.

I just posted the University of Chicago acceptance. I've had a very lucky two days!
From the looks of the e-mail (and the fact that there's no other U Chicago posting yet though the email was sent two hours ago), I doubt they sent all the acceptances at once.
Congrats, that is really an accomplishment!
-
I'm upset that I haven't heard anything from Chicago. And sad!
I'm pretty disappointed too. Markell, McCormick, Gooding-Williams, Wedeen.....such a great place for theory. But Northwestern has good people as well (congrats, by the way), and there are still more places to hear from.

I completely agree - given that I have a few offers with much better funding, I'm not considering it.
