ugh, i'm just being pissy. Hopefully NDSEG or CSGF give me good news. Sorry to be annoying if I was!

At Dubblebubble, there are other parameters they score you on besides those given scores. Also, they wont give a crap
What other parameters do they score? I thought it was all based on the reviews. Yeah, they probably won't give a crap though :/

Wait, I got VG/VG, E/E, E/VG for bioengineering undergrad senior, but I go no award or even honorable mention. But I heard that someone got worse reviews (4 VG and 2 E), was senior undergrad in bioengineering and got honorable mention. Isn't this unfair? Should I call them tomorrow?
-
how do you know if you got it or not? My final status says: not recommended, so does that mean I didn't get it? But I got VG/VG, E/E, E/VG and I'm an undergrad senior.

Rejected by University of Delaware Friday and U Penn Monday, UPenn I guess I am not surprised but U Delaware? They aren't even ranked as far as BME goes, maybe they are for Bioeng or something? I applied to them as a safer school (safer than the top ten BMEs) and now I've been rejected. What am I going to do now? If I don't get accepted to the two schools that interviewed me (Tufts and Rutgers) I may become physically and mentally ill. I haven't heard from two others as well but they're basically a rejection at this point, I would shit bricks if either said yes (JHU and UPitt). I know Tufts and Rutgers just started sending out acceptances recently and I can't stand waiting any longer.
I really wish I could give you some help or insight but I really can't because I don't know much about those schools. But if you don't get into your desired grad school (which we all hope that doesn't happen ), taking a year off is really not that bad. It seems all the top applicants during my interview weekends worked in a couple months to a couple years after graduation. A lot also did Masters. I know a couple of people who did bad their first time applying, but after some additional experience and perhaps a Master's, they got into almost all their top choices! So please don't be too stressed and know that if you are motivated, things will work out! I bet you'll still do great things!

I suppose, but idk if profs at one place in particular would have enough feel for both of the programs (unless you're at one of them haha). I guess it's worth a try though!
Thanks! I'm leaning towards living in the bay area so probably Berkeley/UCSF or Stanford.
I did BioE at Berkeley, so I can answer any questions you have for Berkeley!

I've heard the same thing about Caltech being more theoretical/academia-based instead of being more translational/industry-based. I suppose it boils down to what you want to do with your PhD. Clearly, going to UCSD won't prevent you from doing academia, but if you feel like there's an edge to Caltech then perhaps that might be better for you?
Thanks for your input! I was thinking of asking professors about their opinion of Caltech versus UCSD, do you think that would be a good measure of how good a school is in terms of the academia world?
Btw, congrats on all the acceptances! Are you leaning towards a specific school so far?
-
There are 2 professors at each school where I can really see myself work there. The research at Caltech seems more exciting and fields I will love to learn more about but am not experienced in yet while UCSD research is more translational (cool to see the application as well) and closer to the research I did in undergrad (and wouldn't mind doing in grad school as well). I feel Caltech caters towards the academia route, which is what I'm leaning towards; however, I think I will be happier at UCSD (graduate students at UCSD seemed to be happier and I like the more lively campus).
Any thoughts?

Hello people! Do you guys have any insight or opinion between these two programs? I am leaning towards academia like professorship and I heard during my visit at Caltech that a lot of professors nowadays came from Caltech (but idk if BioE specifically). But UCSD is a higher ranked school and San Diego has a big biotech industry (but I am probably not going to do industry). Essentially, it's Caltech's big name in general vs. UCSD top ranked BioE program. What do you guys think? Any views would be great!

Any news on sunny San Diego?
From the interview, they said that they invited around 60 students but only like 50 people attended interviews, so they may accept some people from the waitlist. They also stated they wanted to accept around 55-60 students. If you haven't heard back yet, there's a chance you will be on the waitlist!
-
As I said, I was awarded it last year, so it is listed on all of my applications. Yet I was still waitlisted at Harvard and have yet to hear back from Stanford or MIT.
And you applied to BioE right? Stanford and MIT have sent out rejections already, weird. Did you call the schools already?
-
I was awarded an NSF fellowship last year but deferred it until Fall 2015. I am definitely in the "maybe" pile for several schools (Stanford, MIT, Harvard waitlisted me).
Have you contacted those schools about ur NSF? Has that changed their decision for you?

Rejected by Harvard bioengineering just now. Checked website
-
Wow, that's crazy low. Flying people out and not even accepting half of them? Yikes
yup, and what's weird is that they were reimbursing international students (up to $900!) and they invited like at least 5 of them during my interview weekend. Maybe that shows how much Caltech can spend on these things.
-
I feel like 50% are pretty good odds considering the odds you had to beat just to get that interview!
(Though as someone about to be in a similar position, I completely understand why 50% is still pretty nerve-wracking.)
Thanks! I'm worrying way too much, I need to find a hobby to distract things.
(But back to worrying, they told us that they will tell us around the end of this month, ahhhhh!)
-
I don't think UCSD has sent out all of their invites yet. However, I think Northwestern has sent theirs out (on Jan 21-22) for an interview visit of Feb 19-20. Can't speak to the others.
Do you mean you heard back from Caltech as in you got an interview at caltech? If so, congrats! Like other people have said, post-interview acceptances are still pretty high (like >75%).
Went to Caltech interview and they told us 50% were expected to be admitted, so it was kinda nerve-wracking interview process.
I'm getting really confused in how some schools are responding and a lot of schools I applied to that I thought I had a good chance at are not replying back. I guess it really shows how much of a crapshoot everything is.
-
Ugh, why are schools not telling me anything. Haven't heard back from UCSD, Northwestern, GA Tech, or Columbia. Do you think this will be rejection? What's weird is that I did research at Columbia (not undergrad there), so I feel like I should've heard back if it's positive news by now.
Weirdly, heard back from Caltech, but definitely worried I won't get in.
-
Has anyone heard back from Harvard yet?
I haven't but my friend has
-
I know, I haven't heard back from 6 out of 9 schools. I'm pretty sure it'll be a rejection from MIT BE, why can't they just email us now? Also, UCSD has been sending interview invites and rejections, but I haven't gotten any news, what should this mean? I also think that by now, an invite for UCSD is also very unlikely.
Aughhh, the anticipation
-
I haven't heard from 6 out of 9 schools I applied to (but others have heard according to the results page), should I be worried? Aughhh, the wait is killing me.

-
Btw, for Georgia Tech, can you apply to bioengineering. I applied to BME but can you apply straight to BioE? If so, how can you do that?
-
I heard that if u didn't get an interview by now, you won't be admitted.
Wanna start a crying party?! :,,,,,(

Got my first rejection from WashU . Sad day.

Has anyone heard back yet? I feel the chances of getting this is very low
