  1. I still have not decided yet. Hopefully somebody can weigh in with some advice! I'm deciding between Korbel (No funding) and Penn State SIA ($20,500 plus RAs). I would have help from my family to attend either school. If I decide on Korbel, I'm estimating to be in at least 50k debt. If I go to Penn State, it would be around 15k in debt. I love Colorado and would enjoy my time in Denver. While I'm not too fond of the area Penn State is located, its close to Philly, NYC, and DC. Obviously Korbel has the more prestigious program, but Penn State seems to be good as well. The faculty is impressive and students have landed good jobs after graduation. Being relatively debt free would give me the freedom to choose a lower paying job if it interests me, travel, etc. It boils down to paying a high price for a known product or taking a discount on an lower (but promising) program.
  2. That's encouraging to hear Hopefully we're near the top of their list
  3. Finally got a response. Wait listed
  4. Is there anyone here still waiting? I'm pretty astounded they said they would send out all decisions by the end of last week and I'm still waiting.
  5. ^^^ I'm still waiting. Hopefully they will let us know tomorrow.
  6. Did you guys get a call from a number with a DC area code?
  7. No email yet and my application status is still the same. I'll report back when either changes.
  8. WMIN, I'll be at the open house. Good idea to visit the place I'm considering spending tens of thousands of dollars on lol
  9. I was the one that posted on the results page. I found out through a phone call, so I don't have my acceptance in writing yet. I suspect they'll send out emails by next week at the latest
  10. Yes. If they gave me 20k each year I would have to cover the rest. Financial aid, loans, and whatever I can make while working part time would have to pay for it. Hey. I also applied to the MIA program. I got a call today from a member of their admissions board telling me about the admission and the scholarship. I havent received any e-mails nor has anything on my application been changed reflecting my admission. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
  11. If I got 20k a year I would go there for sure. I was accepted a couple of days ago but didn't get any scholarships. However Penn State is offering me 20k (not sure if its per year or for the duration of the program). Anyone have recommendations?
  12. Hi everyone! I just discovered this site a couple of days ago. I am seeking a Masters in International Affairs/Relations. I was wondering if anyone would be able to suggest schools/help me set up expectations. First, a little infro about myself. B.S. in International Affairs from a widely recognized southern state school. GPA: 2.782 Senior Year GPA: 3.4 So my overall is a huge problem. I graduated in 3 years and spent my first two as an Engineering major. Things were not going well (causing my GPA to plummet) and I switched to something International Affairs. My GPA steadily improved each semester after switching majors. My senior year GPA would have been closer to a 3.75 but a very close friend passed halfway through my last semester. I had to take a week off and could not recover from that grade wise. I am taking the GRE this week and I'm expecting high scores. At least 162 on the Verbal and high 150s/low 160s on the Quantitative Reasoning. I have two good letters of recomendation lined up, and I am working on getting a third, all from professors. My dedication and committment to this field and my goals are extremely high. I believe that will show in my Personal Statements. My family is ethnically diverse, exposing me to a wide range of differing cultures and beliefs, many of which clash. My extracurriculars are lacking except for leading an English Conversation Club for international students at my university. My goal, like many other IA students, is to become a Foreign Service Officer. More specifically, a Public Diplomacy Officer. I am interested in conflict resolution and using communication, education, and improving relations with people at a local level to combat extremism and prevent conflicts. Questions: 1) Taking all this into account, which schools do you think would be a good fit for me, which are a reach, and which schools I have relatively no shot at getting in? 2) My motivations for pursuing a career in diplomacy are a little personal, as I have immediate family members that have been stuck in a certain civil war since 2011. How should I approach this in my Personal Statments? 3) How should I mention my GPA in my Personal Statement? I do not want to make excuses, but I want to show that my first two years are not an accurate reflection of my abilities. I would appreciate any advice and opinions. Thanks!
