Oh man, its really tough :( But you have experience actually being in the field, so your chances should be improved a lot by that! I was considering becoming an SLPA but I wasn't sure how, or where I would be able to do that, as I live in NJ and I don't think its an option here. I don't know your stats, but I feel like with the experience and improvement in your pre-reqs, you definitely would have a good chance. Hang in there!

If you don't mind me asking, how does it work in order to become an SLPA? I thought there was still an exam to pass and courses to take? Unless I misunderstood what I read about it?

Not sure how it works in the US, but in Canada there's a 1 year college program for CDA (SLPA). http://www.cdaac.ca/programs.htm for more info :)

Just curious, were the two documents a pre-req verification form and essential functions form? I got an email about that a few weeks ago, but I wasn't sure if everyone had to submit those. Hopefully we hear back soon!

Yeah those were the 2 documents, I wasn't sure either but submitted it anyways.

Already posted something about this on the interview thread, but has anyone heard from GVSU about interviews yet? Their website says that invitations will be sent out mid-february, so I was wondering if anyone has heard back yet.

Nope haven't heard anything yet. I only got an email about submitting 2 additional documents by the end of this week. My guess is we'll hear back probably sometime next week.

Hey ya'll, thought I'd share a news update for all of my fellow GVSU applicants!

According to their website, interviews will be held on March 19th, with invitations being sent out mid-February. So basically we should all know where we stand in the next two weeks or so! Hopefully this info serves as a bit of a stress reliever for those of us freaking out about this school lol.

    Good luck everyone! :]

    Thanks for this info! :)

    Hi all!

I'm a current first year student in SLP at the U of A.

I was in your shoes a year ago and had zero faith that I'd actually be accepted anywhere, let alone to both the U of A and U of T.

I won't be much use in terms of helping you navigate the application forms but I am happy to answer any questions you may have (just be patient, I'm in the middle of exams :P).

What I can tell you is what I love about the program at the U of A, and trust me that's a long list.

Good luck everyone, and have some faith in yourselves!

Hey there, I'd also like to know your stats if you're willing to share :) Thanks!

  6. hey guys :)
im a current first year SLP student at Western. I got in after my second time applying so I know quite a bit about the application process. If anyone has any questions about the application or about the program at Western, feel free to send me a message! I love helping people out as I know how much of a daunting process this all is!

    Hey there :)

I'm applying to Western this year (assuming I'm able to get a reference from the SLP I volunteer with) and was wondering if you'd be able send me a message sharing your stats?

    Thanks!

  7. Hello everyone!

I have been considering applying to graduate schools for Speech Pathology in Canada. i'm currently living in the US but, I have a duel US/Canadian citizenship. I was wondering if there are any cons if I were to get my MS/MA in Canada rather then in the US. I am nervous about trying to find work in the US with a Canadian degree. Also, if anyone has applied to Canada from the US, I would love some feedback! Thank you everyone!

I've been considering the opposite actually, applying to some US schools (as well as those here in Canada). I think the con to applying in Canada is it's very competitive, probably due to the small number of schools in Canada that offer SLP. You should consider applying to both schools in the US and Canada. Hope that helps! :)

  8. I got a call from McGill today too, but I was in class so I couldn't answer it! As soon as I finished class I called them right back, but I had to leave a message. The suspense is killing me now!

So..I'm guessing applicants who were accepted are receiving calls now? Did anything change on your UApply account?

  9. Hey guys, there's an acceptance for McGill on the results page!

Wow, this is stressful! Why can't they just send everything (acceptances, refusals and waitlists) to everyone all at once? Gah! I thought this process was stressful before, but now I'm really freaking out. :o Taking. Deep. Breaths.

Seriously, congrats to those who have been accepted so far!

Hey, which results page are you referring to?

  10. For anyone applying to McGill... once you complete the checklist (i.e., upload transcripts, answer the questions, etc.) is there something to do to completely submit your application? I don't see any button to press that gives me a sense of completion haha. I guess once you've completed everything that's it? Just wanted to make sure.

    Thanks!

I also applied to McGill, and I think once you complete the checklist that's it! There should be a box in the left side stating your "Application Status".
