zd0943, my main focus is on international trade , consulting, and finance in the private sector, I feel there would be many opportunities in California as well. Whereas if I want a job in the public sector, maybe then it would be harder for someone coming out of UCSD. Anyways, good luck with your decision !

Do you think UCSD IR/PS is worth going to if you did not receive funding from the big name schools like Georgetown and JHU SAIS? I think UCSD is perfect fit for me and so far, I prefer it. and cost would be so much easier to handle (in-state tuition), but am afraid I might limit my opportunities after graduation. My main interest is working in the private sector (consulting or global trade or finance) or research. Is it worth paying full price tag in SAIS or Georgetown or not? UCSD has a great career services placement and I'd also be getting a lot of hard skills, something that is useful for someone that doesn't have much relevant work experience like myself (1 yrs in software). What do you guys think?

How much debt are you willing to take on for your degree?

I only got a small amount of funding for Fletcher and none for Elliott school and American, but still happy to get into most schools, including my first choice Georgetown MSFS. I'll have to take on serious debt regardless the program (even UCSD IR/PS) but it will obviously be the better move for the future as I cannot make much and cannot get into my career of choice in my current status. I plan to apply for outside scholarships and academic/off campus employment to take less loans once in school again. I have a question for everyone though. Would you take on more debt to go to a school like Georgetown (highly regarded as the best IR program alongside SAIS) or go to a school like Fletcher, American, or GWU Elliott for less money (they're not significantly cheaper as I didn't got 0-minimal funding)? If I'm still paying close to full price for GWU or Fletcher but they are a little bit cheaper. Fit-wise, I am all for Georgetown, but is it worth the discount to go elsewhere and sacrifice fit and also the Georgetown brand/prestige? -
Still Waiting? What is Your Top Choice?(Fall 2015)

I still am far from decided, but basically, I haven't received much funding (aside from Fletcher). I have got into Georgetown SFS, GWU Elliott, Fletcher, UCSD IR/PS (CA resident). I really like Georgetown due to fit, class size, and prestige, but wanted to know if it is worth the extra money to go there (and gamble on getting TA/RAships and 2nd year funding/external funding)??? Also, any knowledge on how easy it is to get funding opportunities like TAships and 2nd year funding at these schools. -
I haven't got anything yet as well, so they might not have decided yet, or they're notifying on a rolling basis!

Yeah I got into ITIP too and hoping they're just lagging with responses haha

Yeah hopefully!

Does anyone know if we haven't received word of a fellowship/funding yesterday, are they still coming out. if we didn't receive them yesterday, then that means no funding?

I'd say go with the school that give you less debt between sis and elliott. At the end of the day, if you network really well from both schools, you'll find something. Plus, American University is a huge school that's been around for quite some time, meaning lots of alumni are coming out of there and many of them are in DC and otehr areas. I'd prefer Elliott, but if SIS was considerably cheaper, your salary after graduation can go more towards you rather than loans, considering that you'll be recieving relatively the same pay after graduation from both schools and I don't see the trend that Elliott grads get paid substantially more than SIS grads.

Ah i see, cool! so most people are not getting it at the same time. I just got my admission a few minutes ago, so I'm assuming if I do get something, it'll be later on or sometime this week.

just got my email too. I'm in! No mention about funding yet though? Same for everyone else?

Maybe it's based off the speific programs applied for within the Elliott School. I applied to ITIP so I don't know if anyone else got a response from them yet. i haven't but not worrying too much as many people didn't get responses till the end of this week during last year's cycle.

Oh wow, well i guess it makes sense as they have so many people that apply.
