I see. Yeah, FSU's not directing their grad student thing is weird. I guess something that surprised me quite a bit when I set out to search for programs were how many programs didn't have an expectation of collaboration between grad directors and actors/designers.

I was in the elevator with a bunch of my co-workers and friends, when I just randomly decided to check the web portal. I blurted out my acceptance as soon as I saw it, then we all started screaming and jumping up and down, which caused the elevator to stop. We were stuck there in panic for a bit, then the elevator eventually moved and the door eventually opened and we ran off the elevator.

Hello folks! Didn't get into Columbia. However, I just received an acceptance from CalArts! Super excited.

The Columbia need assessment form is stressing me out a little bit. It's so detailed and confusing, to at least me, anyway. I'm curresntly entirely dependent on parents and I have no spouse, so I'm having a hard time filling it out, since it asks what I spent money on, when technically I didn't spend money on anything.
(also super self conscious about this post, since I'm showing how terribly young I am...)
Yep. I'm in the same boat. So are we supposed to write 0 for everything we "spent" or...?

I had a great chat with CalArts, and I am headed to their campus as well as Columbia's in the next couple weeks.
When do these schools usually release their final decisions, do we know?

I have my CalArts interview in Chicago this Saturday, and I've also been invited to the Columbia auditions weekend in February.

Haha awesome article, bluebane! Sorry it didn't work out for you this year, but from your writing it seems like you are more than ready to riot next year. Good luck and I hope to be able to see what happens next year, maybe on this forum
It's also great that you wrote the article because there are so little resources on the web for MFA directing applicants. So hopefully it will assuage the terror of many applicants around the world.
