To all the Houston applications, I just received an e-mail from another faculty member who said they were interested in my application because Dr. Raymond (Chip) Knee was not taking students this year.
-
Congrats on accepting the offer from Purdue, Jordy...I guess I can go ahead and scratch my name off the waitlist. Hope you do big things with Dr. Arriaga.
-
Of course...I believe we are coming in on Thursday and leaving early Sunday.
-
Just saw someomne got accepted to Houston's social psych. Care to confess? Congrats
-
Your rejection letter is probably just in the second stack. Better? J/k Good luck
-
I'll be there as well and will be doing a poster presentation as well. A few people from UNC Wilmington are going so it should be fun I'll be presenting "The Role of Similar Humor Styles in Initial Attraction" I am definitely looking forward to it and it would be nice to meet up...

To be honest, I am not really sure why I was accepted. I did my research this summer and contacted all the professors at each university to see if they were accepting students. I have solid credentials (4.0/3.6, 1370 GRE, good letters of rec) but I think the fact that I will have a master's degree might help as well. It shows that I am dedicated to the field, especially with a few professors I applied to work with previously and has given me extra research experience. Also, it might help that the program I did get accepted to might not be as heavily applied as other schools. I am very relieved to be accepted into a doctoral program, but I am hoping for options.

I'd much rather just get rejected. At least I can move on and not depend on other people. Even if I do get in eventually, I'm still not their top choice. And more often than not, I'm not getting in once waitlisted. I just really hope this next interview weekend goes well and I hear positively from it. I'll probably accept the offer if they make one
-
congrats...So did I. I was outraged and think this is complete BS. lol jk
-
I heard the same thing, but I have not heard a word from Yale. I'll take it as "no news is still good news"
-
To the person who got an interview at Rochester, do you mind telling me your POI and what they said? Thanks. You can PM me if that's easier
-
I did...haven't heard anything from her since my initial email asking if she was taking students
-
Also applied to A&M to work with Eastwick or Rholes I see you applied to Houston as well. I want to work with Knee
-
Thank you so much. It's a relief to get an offer but I hope to get others. UCLA was no surprise since they had their interview weekend for social a week or so ago lol
-
Officially rejected from UCLA this morning But just got an email saying I have been accepted to New Mexico State University
-
Haha Wilson was my advisor in undergrad...
-
I'm going to FSU's interview weekend Feb 25-28.
-
Congrats. May I ask which Ivy League school and who your POI is there? I'm only interested because I applied to Yale to work with Margaret Clark
-
I think the POI should still mention if they are taking a student or not, at the least. Last year, I got rejected from Marquette b/c the person wasn't taking a student but would have been accepted if she was.

I wouldn't say going the masters route is a bad option. I had to do it and a lot of the professoros I've spoken to would prefer someone with a masters degree because they are usually more polished and can come in and hit the ground running research. However, I am not sure that getting a masters at one institution increases your likelihood of acceptance to their doctoral program. As for backup plans...if I don't get into a PhD program, I'm moving to Europe or to Vegas and try my hand at being a professional poker player

Congrats Jordy...I e-mailed you btw about Purdue
-
She told me she was likely taking two students though so that is a good sign.
-
I actually had a phone interview with Dr. Arriaga in October and went ahead and had an on-campus visit November 6...
-
Yeah Dr. Arriaga was great...I haven't heard from her in 2 months though. Lol I emailed Dr. Murray in the summer...
-
Well looks like I'm not going to UCLA lol
