  1. Dear friends,

I have two offers that both of them are interesting for me. One from EECS department of Oregon State University (ranked #83 at usnews). The POI there is a well known professor, and is really cool. We have been in touch, and he seems very supportive. The research topic is interesting but a little differs from what I was doing so far. Furthermore, there are some not academic pros for OSU: I have friends at Corvallis, OR, the climate seems to be really nice there, and expanses seems to be low.

As to the other offer, it's from ECE department of Rutgers University (Ranked #41 at usnews). The research topic is completely coincident with my research interests. I don't know the POI's personality, but all his research interests are same as me and he seems cool, too. I will be his first student. - I don't know any one at NJ.

What do you think I should do? Is Rutgers reputation much better than the OSU? Would it help me for finding job easier after graduation?

    Both offers are full funded.

    Thanks

  2. Hi,

My POI emailed me and offered a PhD position in his group. He also asked me that I prefer TA or RA?

First of all, how should I say thank you to him? It was a position that I liked much.

Second, I don't know to choose TA, or RA?! which you recommend?

Third, there is another position in another university I have applied, that I like it very much, too. I had serious talk with a professor there, and I will have an interview soon. If I receive a good offer from the second one, I think I will choose that, but I don't want to loose the other opportunity, cause I don't know even I will get an offer from the second one or not! What should I say in my response? Should I mention my condition?

  3. Hi,

    I got these scores for GRE: Q=170; V:144; W: 3.0;

I didn't study for the exam; I'm an international, and the verbal and writing section was hard for me.

Do you think I can get a funded PhD position in Electrical Engineering or CS in these universities:

    Washington State U.

    Johns Hopkins U.

    U. of Rochester

    U. of Utah

    Do you offer any other?

I have also two submitted international conference papers, and one journal paper.

    Thanks.
