  1. It's not the same situation but my school address is an unusual one, and the zip code is often unrecognized. It has been difficult when ordering things, or applying for things that require an address. The lengthy explanations, the impracticality of having to make a simple process turn into an extended conversation- I suggest you seriously contemplate whether it will be worth it, and do you want all of your future work to be strangely credited, as well? I respect your conviction and your name. I just wonder if you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't take the time and expense now, to compromise - even if only for official documents and correspondence. Best of luck!

  2. Hey by Jan 1st do you mean the regular consideration deadline? I am surprised to hear you already heard back! I applied then too and I haven't heard a peep from UW, and wasn't expecting to until the end of March! Anxiety level is through the roof, the waiting game sucks :(

Hi Caitlin, I applied by the January deadline, too, which was regular decision, not early decision, and I haven't heard anything, either. I think the early decision applicants are mostly who have received a response or a "too close to call" letter. You're not alone in anticipation. Hang in there... They said "March 24" so anything can still happen.
  3. Hi Rooibos123 - I was also wondering about being able to do paid work during the program. Have you talked to any current students about this being feasible? I know from reading Smith SSW's Dispatches blog that at least one student is juggling a full-time job while in school. Not sure how common that is, though. We'll see, I guess! I'm starting this June after having deferred a year. Congrats on your acceptance!

    Congratulations dp2065!!!!

I will be starting in June, as well. It's all so exciting. This gradcafe forum has been extremely helpful... And continues to be- I appreciate you mentioning the Dispatches Blog, because I haven't looked at it in awhile and I'm still figuring a lot out- like working etc. You must be especially looking forward to beginning, after deferring-congrats again!

  4. Hi All,

I was accepted to NYU as well and I'm strongly considering it, but the financial aspect is what is holding me back. Those of you that have decided to attend NYU, how will you be paying for it? I know living expenses in NY are crazy expensive as well! I appreciate any input in advance!

    Congratulations! When did you apply?
  5. I received an email from UW Seattle about financial aid, but nothing yet about my admissions decision - weird? The email just says they have received my financial aid app, and what to do when admitted...Has anyone else heard from them?

    Hi jalapeno_bagel,

Did the email begin with this:

"We have received your financial aid application for the 2015-16 year. If

you are a continuing student or are admitted to the UW, and are eligible

for aid, your application will go through a review process.  We may ask

you to provide information before or after we offer you aid.  Please

respond promptly to every request.  Once we have awarded you aid, we

will send you an award notice via email."?

If so, I received it, too! Puzzling.

  6. Hello all! I have also applied to NYU and Fordham. I applied to NYU on January 7th regular decision and I haven't heard back from them. I have also received the same emails as you all. I've called and they have told me to expect a decision sometime this week or next as they make decisions on a rolling basis. I'm hoping to get in to the program but from what I'm reading, they have already started admitting people. I'm becoming anxious. For Fordham decision letters I was told I will know by the first week of March. Also my NYU application still says processing. Good luck to everyone still waiting and congrats to the people who have got accepted.

Thank you for the info! It is so thoughtful of you to share what you were told in your phone call. I applied the same time you did and I've been wondering when we might receive the decision. Good luck and thanks again!
  7. I am definitely concerned about the cost but most of the MSW programs with a clinical focus fall in the same price range. Lol no rich parents here! Have you decided if you are going to accept?

I will be greatly in debt, but I likely will accept. There are loan forgiveness opportunities I plan to pursue that will help. I realized I would be in debt when I chose to apply. It is worth it to me, because of the caliber of Smith and the unique program. I also think the block plan will make it more practical to work during the two years. I am excited and willing to be in debt. I see the cost as finite and the positives as infinite. (I realize many people reading this will see it differently and I enjoy hearing other perspectives as much as the next person, however: I am offering this as my perspective, not as an invitation for debate.)

  8. Hi all,

I got the email saying I got in to the NYU 2-year program :)

To help, these are the emails I received. I'm not sure if everyone gets these, but someone asked, so I'll give what I have:

a thank you for applying email, monitoring your app, introduction to the admissions office, the dual degree options at Sarah Lawrence, welcome from the Dean, visit the school, and finally, my decision letter.

Good luck everyone! Hope to see some of you in the fall.

I wonder when they'll let us know about FAFSA. Anyone have any info on that?

Congratulations and thanks for the info! Did you apply by early decision deadline or regular decision deadline?

  9. I applied early decision and had an interview 2 weeks ago. Waiting patiently for that letter to arrive : )

I wasn't interviewed; I hope that isn't a standard procedure for all admitted students. Do you know if that is the case? The letter should be arriving any day now... Good luck!

  10. hickub2 (and any NYU applicants/students) Did you receive emails before you were accepted that were along the lines of "Welcome to Silver... I am pleased you have applied. I encourage you to continue to explore what Silver offers... Visit our vibrant community..." (From the Dean) I am wondering if this is sent to everyone who applies.

  11. Congratulations, rosesw!

    When did you apply?

I received an email last night and the subject line was "Welcome to the Silver School..." - I was so excited. But it turned out to be an email encouraging me to continue exploring all that the program has to offer, and highlighting all the strengths of NYU Silver. It was puzzling, given that I've already applied.

Anyway, I am very happy for you!!!!
