Everything's different this year. For example, they've never notified waitlisted candidates before. They want a very small incoming cohort so I doubt they've sent many first round offers, and the chances of getting off the waitlist might be relatively good because of that.

Not sure this is accurate. Looks like there were at least three people last year, going through the list of reported results, who were notified by email that they were waitlisted. The only difference seems to be that they were notified after acceptances seem to have been sent.

Thread originator back from the dead, mostly to say that it's the first week of the semester here at NYU so I'm willing to bet most advisers either sent out acceptances already or are still busy with beginning-of-the-semester stuff.

Those are the only two options, aren’t they? Either the decisions are out or they aren’t...

    Congrats to all admitted.

  3. For those who have been admitted to Columbia for the Masters,

I was wondering if it said explicitly in the email that they have offered you the admissions for the Master's

    or

did it say in the letter that your application was recommend to be reviewed and they will let you know more in a month?

    Thank you!

Here you go: "While the faculty of the Department of Sociology was not able to offer you admission to its doctoral program, it has decided to offer you admission to the M.A. program, beginning in the Fall 2015 semester. Although your application to the doctoral program was competitive, the faculty Admissions Committee was able to admit only a small percentage of this year's extremely strong Ph.D. applicants. The program to which you have been admitted culminates in the degree of Master of Arts."

  4. For those who received MA acceptances from Columbia: have you heard anything at all before that?

Nope: it was first I heard from them, and the website changed my applicant status from PhD to MA. Deadline to respond to offer is 3/18. Not taking the spot.

Also: the email subject line opens with "Congratulations," then follows up with: "a decision has been made on your application." Rude.

  5. @theluckyone

I am in the same boat.  I havent heard anything from Harvard Columbia Penn or NYU, Sorry I cant call I am in class until 7 tonight. Hold strong!

Called Columbia GSAS today, told them there was confusion around acceptances/rejections, and was told decisions still being made & Admission Comm still having meetings. That's the official word, I guess.
