  1. Wowza, I can definitely see how you'd be overwhelmed by all that. Good luck on everything, and I hope the pregnancy is good news -- if so, congratulations!!

Thanks. It's not NOT a good thing. It's just that in the last year, I've quit a job, got married, bought a house that we've completely gutted while living in (no kitchen for the first month of marriage--done!), moved states, started a new job in a new field, got accepted to a phd program, and found myself knocked up.

but, what's life if not crazy... right?

  2. Hello All:

I've posted a little, but mostly lurk.  I'm wondering if any of you know about travel/research opps for sw students (PhD pref.).  I traveled for my MSW, and am hoping to procure a similar opportunity for the PhD.  I'm not sure if most of the experiences are only available to postdocs, or at what point a person begins looking/applying so looking for guidance (or direction to an existing post).

about me:  aMy MSW is from a top ranked school, i'm accepted to a "smaller?" program at a state school for PhD. I have full funding, without teaching expectations for year 1 and 4.  My director did a fullbright, so I'll talk to her more about that, but am interested in  learning from any of you who have applied or are applying.  My research interests are: program development and evaluation, youth with chronic health conditions, and youth transitioning from foster care and/or from the pediatric to adult health care system.

I have 1 year experience in research in a split hospital/university setting, 2 years supervision experience in foster care, 2 years training/technical assistance training in child welfare (state university, federal grant collab), and 4 years advocacy experience.

    Thank you,

  3. My scores were pretty low--I can't remember the exact numbers, but I freaked out and skipped half the math, and ended up somewhere in the 40th percentile. I was in 80th and 90th for quant and analytical.  I only applied to one school (recently married, started new job, moved to new city--didn't want to uproot so quickly).  surprisingly got in, and with full funding.
