  1. I paid my deposit to Penn yesterday so it's official!! Looking forward to meeting whomever will be joining me in the fall.  It seems like a personable environment dedicated to fostering and inspiring each individual person in the program.

I'm happy to answer any questions or address any concerns for people who are considering.  I also live in Philly already and can answer questions about the city!

  2. @lemonlime - I visited Ann Arbor but the only time I could go was their spring break - which I  didn't realize til after I booked.  I got to walk around campus a lot and meet a few current students of the program.  I live very close to Penn's campus and living here have been able to get connected to a lot of friends of friends who are currently in SP2 or alumni, so I've gotten coffee with a few people. I'm also going to their open house this Saturday.  Definitely helps talking to people!!

@MissyTee - you are so right.  I keep lamenting what a 'tough decision' this is but we're lucky we're in a position to be making this decision!!  I'm also going to the open house this Saturday!  I'm looking forward to it.  Living so close to Penn, I feel like I haven't done the proper visit/tour yet, so I think this will be good.  I visited Ann Arbor and fell in love with the city, but I was really holding out for a fellowship that would involve classes and field work in Detroit, which didn't work out.  I think Penn has many more field placement opportunities.  I do like how you can really personalize your MSW at Mich, but sometimes a lot of options is almost too much, and maybe the binary at Penn is better - and I also like the fact you have two field placements and can take classes in other schools.  Financial aid between the two was pretty comparable, though I did get a little bit more from Penn.  So we'll see!  Good luck with your decision! Maybe meet you in the fall :)

  3. I don't think there's a thread yet for us -

Who has been accepted to Penn for the fall? And who is going??

I'm currently debating between Mich and Penn and my preference changes every day.  I live near Penn though and I think it will be a great fit.

    Why are YOU choosing Penn?

  4. Hey everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience: I haven't received a view decision link or letter (official or otherwise), but now have access to the 2015-2016 financial aid year under the "Award Status" section, which I did not before. Although there are currently no awards listed, might this imply that I've been accepted?

    Btw, congratulations to all admittees!

    - d

I did have that experience - that happened about a week ago but I didn't actually get my decision until yesterday, and my decision is still not reflected in Wolverine Access.  It seems like most of our experience is we get the email before it's reflected in the portal.

  5. @Kitso @likethewitch haha okay phew there is still hope for all of us! I know the healthiest thing would be to stop checking this forum and Wolverine access but I just can't stop!!  Well maybe we'll get good news before the end of the day and we can return here to celebrate :) Do you both think you'll be most likely attending UMich in the fall and are just waiting on the finaid? That's the boat I'm in!

  6. Hey guys how were you notified, for those who have already received financial aid packages? Was it through an email or just on wolverine access? I went on wolverine today and basically the financial aid thing is set up, but there are no awards just lots of zeros. :-(

i just logged on here to ask the same  thing. I logged onto Wolverine a few hours ago and FINALLY there was a change to fin aid but like you, all 0s.  I logged on again later and it was still all 0s but the format was different so I'd like to think they are working on it now... it says what I am expected to pay per semester but says 0 for awarded.  Is that similar to what you see?? Siigh we're driving ourselves nuts here.

  7. Has anyone heard anything about financial aid? I've been refreshing Wolverine Access way too much, I'm so anxious...

I know - I feel like I check it every 10 minutes and it is driving me crazy!  I think 2 or 3 people on this forum heard Tuesday and no one else has said anything since. I haven't heard a thing. Michigan told me we'd know before the 15th but that was as specific as they got.

  8. Still no news of finaid today for me. I did visit the campus this weekend and was at the office of student services yesterday - I think they are really just starting on everything this week: financial aid, work study, special programs, fellowships, etc.    I also looked back at the threads here for 2014 and 2013 and it seems like there have been problems in the past with U-M promising a certain date but being a little late on that. So still hope for those who haven't heard.  Fingers crossed for the rest of us this week!

  9. Did visits lean people towards going with Pitt? I was never invited for one. I have spent time in the city, but not the campus.

I wasn't invited for one either. I just went on my own.  It made Pitt go up in my book but I'm not sure if it made an enormous difference in the end. It just made it more tangible and gave me the opportunity to meet students and staff.

  10. Hey ceapa421, I am also an RPCV and applied for Coverdell! Have you heard anything from them? Interviews, emails, etc? I have heard nothing, considering reaching out but instead, I am incessantly checking these boards!

No - I haven't heard a thing! In my admissions letter it said we'd hear before March 1st but at this point that means we should hear today.  It makes me feel a bit better that I'm not the only one who hasn't heard. I finally broke down and wrote to them last night just to get a sense of when we MIGHT hear - I will let you know if/when I hear back from the.  Good luck and fingers crossed for both of us :)

  11. What did you like most about your visit? :)

I loved having the chance to meet some professors, staff, and students.  I'm interested in COSA and there was a really good representation of both COSA and direct practice at the event I went to.  The Cathedral of Learning is beautiful and I really liked the city of Pittsburgh as a whole.   Have you visited - or do you plan to?

  12. Hi everyone,

I just joined this thread because today I was accepeted to Pitt's MSW- Advanced standing program. I want to hear what people have to say about the school and things as such. I also applied to Columbia, NYU, and Millersville. And I am still waiting to hear back from the rest of the schools.

I also had one problem. I could not find the link to the FAAS form for financial aid. I beleieve this has to be submitted before we recieve our financial aid package.

I visited Pitt a week ago and Theresa said that the FAAS for this year was not yet available.  Not sure how we can make March 15 decisions without that...

  13. You'll find out separately. I received my admission letter first and was contacted about a month later for a GASP interview (I applied Dec 1st). They told me they send their choices to the financial aid office and then the financial aid will notify applicants if they were chosen for GASP as part of their whole financial aid package. I think they're still reviewing the second round of GASP applicants.

Did they give you a sense of when you might hear the final decisions for GASP/financial aid package?

  14. Yeah I received $8,000 per semester! I'm just wondering if they also have need based scholarships. I know they have a integrated mental health stipend for $18,000 but I'm interested in Child Welfare :( !

Wow that's awesome! Congrats! I was just under 3.4 GPA and they said I wasn't eligible for any scholarship at all - they were really stringent on the 3.4 to even be considered... which was a little frustrating since I have several years of work and field experience.  Oh well.  It sounds like there isn't need based, only merit based, unfortunately... but I could be wrong.
